Chickendoodle
My ED (she is 26) has got a 1st in her Social Work degree She had a difficult time as a teenager - always very clever but just didn't bother - s"Ooops, word censored!"ed her GSCE's and only went to 1 term at college (as one of her tutors said - wrote one brilliant essay and we never saw her again) She went to Australia for a year at age 18, came back and got a temp job at Social Services, found she loved it and got as far as she could before deciding she needed a degree so that she could become a fully qualified Soclal Worker. She has struggled financially over the last 3 years, broken up with her boyfriend and carried on working for Social Services in the holidays. She has also had very full on placements during her course (the last one being 4 months in the mental health crisis team). A very stressful 3 years. Amazingly she has got a Social Work job starting 1st September - in this time of cutbacks that is incredible. Back to work today to fullfil her obligations under her current contract so she has only had 10 days break after handing in her dissertation. She has always worked with the elderly and wants to specialise in elderly mental health. I am so, so proud of her.

dancing cloud
Wow! Burst away! A 1st is always impressive and all the more so if it didn't come easily. Sounds like a great choice of career and specialism, in something that will always be in demand and in which she can make a real difference to others
