Christmas present for 11 year old boy

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping the collective Omlet wisdom might be able to help me find a Christmas pressie for my 11 year old nephew. I usually buy a couple of small (sub £10) presents for my nephews rather than one larger one. I have already found him one little present but am really struggling to find something else to give him to make up the rest of his present.

So what I am after is:

Something that costs max £10

Something he could do by himself (parents don't sit down with boys to help them with a game/project)

He's into video games/ipod etc but doen't have to be a gadgety present.

Has more clothes than the population of a small country so I don't want to buy clothes

Struggles with his reading so choosing books is tricky

Any ideas???!!!!

How about a set of headphones, my children go through these like water, you can usually get some reasonable ones under £10, does he have a CD player as well as ipod, if so a CD. If he struggles with reading, how about a simple joke book or graphic novel to encourage him.

HMV stocks good, funkily coloured headphones at reasonable prices; Rosie gets hers from there.

This particular nephew isn't sporty - and has handwarmers already! You can see how this is tricky!

patsylabrador - the science kits are great and I have bought some for some of my other nephews who would get a bit of time/help from Mum and Dad to do them, but this lad would just be left to do it by himself which means that he wouldn't :( Makes me very sad. I think some funky headphones are the way to go as I know they would definitely be used.

My 11yr old boy is really keen on Rubix cube, they are very popular with children at school and amazon have them well under £10, so you could add a box of chocolates too!

The horrible series .Science, history etc etc are always good, they are between a book and a comic, and full of fact(and gore). Both mine really enjoyed them, as they are dip in and out books....but dont let them take them into the loo..... unless you have another loo....(we didn't at the time  )

If he has enough room...... my grandson had a Stomp Rocket when he was 11 and still loves it now at 12, I've just bought one for my 9 year old nephew as he always asks to play with it when he's here. They use up a lot of energy retrieving the rockets :D

Brilliant, brilliant suggestions everyone. I went with headphones and an iPhone silicone cover in the end, but with 7 nephews, some of whom are also close to that age, it's given me some ideas to tuck up my sleeve for birthdays throughout the year. Especially loving the book suggestions as I am quite out of touch with what kids are reading (it's easy when they're little but trickier when they are growing up!).
