Alis girls
Yup I admit it especially as non of you know my real name!! I am deeply ashamed - for a few days I have had a nasty niff in the kitchen. Not convinced its gone but in a fit of pique OH and I cleaned out fridge and I found some tomatoes in a box from the summer they were enclosed in a tupperware. Anyone else had any nasty surprises. At an age where the eyes and ears are not so good - the old konk seems to be working very well - put me in Heathrow and I could sniff out drugs. I always say I have a nurses nose - I can sniff out a leg ulcer, urinary incontinence at 3yds - not a pleasant talent to have believe me. Now admit to any nasties in your fridges if you dare. Charlottechicken
I found a month old mozzarella ball in the sealed package, about to explode I was too scared to put it in the bin as it was so punctured the bag and the liquid squirted all up the kitchen wall
Goosey Lucy
I also have been cursed with an over sensitive nose. We currently have some Christmas Brie in the shed/outhouse. I refused to have it in the house. And now I'm refusing to go in the shed... It once took a visit from the Gas board to shout off our gas supply for OH to admit that I was right when I said I could smell gas. For all of the previous month... soapdragon
I was cleaning out the 'fridge just before the big Chirstmas food shop in order to maximize turkery storage space and came across a small ramekin. Somewhat puzzled I sniffed gingerly and came to the conclusion that it was the remnants of the PREVIOUS years home made brandy butter When I told OH his reaction was 'Good God, I hope you didn't throw it away!' Mind you, given the amount of alcohol I usually putin it, it may well have matured nicely!
jasperaliceuk
Not in the fridge, but the nasty niff and my persistence that their was something amiss let us to pull the fridge out to find a dead mouse lying on top of the condenser. Looney
I opened a tub of cream cheese last week that I found in the fridge, they do a green, furry version right?!
Olly
That will go with the green yoghurt I found the other day. My worst thing is cucumber, it looks ok until you touch it and find it's sort of liquefied. I do try not to waste food and to use up leftovers, but things just escape and hide in the fridge sometimes. I'm sure there's a secret passageway in there! sadietoo
Nasty niff in my kitchen turned out to be three mice who had electrocuted themselves across the control panel of the cooker and a further two who had come to a nasty end in the sides of the cooker... Took me about a month to find them all
chickencam
I have a sensitive nose too My MIL came over when we OH and I hadn't been living together for long and she decided to make a cup of tea whilst the rest of us were in the garden, she looked for cake and found a loaf cake that had been forgotten about for a month in a cake tin, we never did get the stain out. I was so embarrassed. Having said that her other DIL really is a slob, OH takes a video on his phone each time we go to their house, it gets worse each time, thick grime and debris around the edges of the floor and ceiling dripping with grease. It would make Kim and Agie wince we ate there on New Year's Day and lived to tell the tale, but have said never again which is a shame because she can cook. Alis girls
The relief that I am not the only one with a minging fridge is great. I do clean however the fridge gets cleaned when I have time and thats not often. we had mice at the last house and they have a distinct smell - we have 2 cats - one in partic is a champion mouser and I remember him and his sister were going mental as they could smell the mice. I came down at 2am to let him out this am and no mouse type noises heard. Washing machine is being moved today for a look and fridge tommorrow - will keep you posted on outcome if you arent too busy cleaning your fridges
snowberry
Youngest went back to school on Monday. I went to put something in his bag & he tried to cagily pull it away from me Further investigations produced an old unwashed p.e. kit & a very mouldy lunchbox last used circa October 2012.....with UFO inside.... Seagazer
We had a nasty niff in the kitchen cupboards and it turned out to be some manky potatoes at the back. They really did stink. Re mice - our two kitties are very proficient at catching and bringing them in. The good thing is that they sit and wait where the mice have hidden for them to move so you can usually find them. Before Christmas I said to OH that here must be one under the fridge, he insisted there wasn't. We moved it and found one live mouse and a half a dead one Lovely. Alis girls
i was bemoaning the fact to OH that despite kitties I think we could have a mouse - possibly one our ginger tom secreted in hidden in his mouth which happened last yr. The tail was sticking out his mouth like a bit of spaghetti. He now has a full body check for MOB (mouse on board)
sage
Many years ago when I was a teenager, I had been drinking on the school field one night. I went home ever so slightly drunk, climbed into bed and watched the room spin & spin & spin. When I woke next day I found out I had been sick in the bin in the corner. To save me from getting into trouble I knotted the bag & put it in the draw of the bed. Know one ever went in the draw as it was up against the wall. Several months later my mother was hunting the cause of a strange smell in my room ,then it dawned on me the bag of vomit was still there. I managed to smuggle it out to the dustbin when she went to work but the smell made me vomit again. Sage
bluekarin
Sage, you win the Slob Award I too have found odd bits rotting in the dark recesses of the fridge - liquid cucumber in its plastic wrap, furry peppers, and lettuce soups. I think the worst is lunch leftover in kids school bags. Not nice to put your hand in and get something quite unexpected

The Dogmother
I sometimes have to take a bin bag and shovel to my daughter's room; I find part-filled lunchboxes/tupperwares and mouldering sports gear, particularly running socks, stiff with sweat and rain
