Ain't Nobody Here
Just been fitted with a new hearing aid in my left ear. My word, the world is a noisy place . I've to wear it one hour the first day, then two the second and so on so my brain adjusts. My voice sounds even weirder than usual, my rings knocking on the bannister going upstairs was a shock and the washing machine sounds like a jumbo jet. I can now hear my typing too which is a bit annoying .
chickencam
Good luck with it, persevere, the brain adjusts very quickly.
dancing cloud
My dad reckoned the thing he noticed was the difference in the sound of planes. He always said they sounded like rattling tin cans and, when he got his new ears, he was delighted to find they did actually sound airworthy after all He also found the world a loud place for a while. Grandmashazzie
The first thing I noticed was the car indicator actually clicked when indicating.Until then I thought it was only light on dashboard that flashed

Ain't Nobody Here
Being in the house on my own was fine (nice to know the hall clock ticks!) but cooking is proving a challenge - everything's so noisy! I think keeping the hearing aid in will be preferable to just doing an hour a day - putting it back in again seems to put you back at square one each time . Not looking forward to OH's gargantuan yawns which I used to be able to hear no problem .
The Dogmother
Are you going back to get it adjusted? Phil's folks both use them, and they had them adjusted a couple of times to fine-tune the levels.
Ain't Nobody Here
It's all very high tech - while they were programming it I had to listen to some very strange speech, a mixture of all kinds of different languages all merged into some kind of unintelligible sentence as well as random noises. I've to go back in after a few weeks if I'm still finding sounds strange and the background noises haven't diminished.
Blackrocksrock
Hope it soon settles down - I am going to have to do the same at some point as I am really getting quite deaf too

Valkyrie
My mum drove us potty with her hearing - or lack of. But because everything was so noisy she kept turning it off. She had it turned off yesterday when I saw her - I got one of those candles that opens up into a flower on her birthday cake, while playing a tune at the same time. She said oh I can hear something. Yes it's the candle, so she leans over so her ear is almost touching it (thankfully the candles had been blown out) and then she said oh I think I can hear it now - I don't have my hearing aid switched on. She does a really good job of lipreading though. But I wish she would have persevered so she could adjust. It was pots and pans that "hurt" her ears too. Ain't Nobody Here
Had to take it off in Dobbies today - so much background noise, it was horrible . The audiologist warned me about paper and plastic being rustled/scrunched and also cutlery on plates - he was right! The sound just isn't natural at the moment which is a bit odd but I'm hoping that'll settle down. The one good thing is that the aid itself is fairly comfy to wear. There's a wee ventilation hole which my old one (20 years ago) didn't have so your ear can "breathe".
Valkyrie
That's another one - the announcements in the shops - she used to stand in the aisle, wincing and covering both ears. First time we ever did Sainsbury's in record time without wandering round for hours looking at things she didn't have on her list and certainly never needed!
