Valkyrie
Sorry to hear that - fingers crossed for plan B then!! My son had been looking at other jobs and had interviews with 3. 2 told him he was overqualified, 2 said that the positions had been filled but this is a lower paid one and you can make up the loss with performance blah blah blah. It isn't a very nice thing to have to change jobs and go for interviews at the moment, so wish you lots of luck.
dancing cloud
Interview for Plan B job should be this afternoon, so asking for positive Omlet vibes yet again please I say "should be" because there is potential for someone who has been off sick to come back today and interfere, and we'd all rather they stayed off until everything is sorted. The pay would be very low (I wouldn't be paying any tax) but it would keep me solvent and out of mischief for part of the week, and would keep my foot in the door here should anything else become available. It's also much easier to get another job if you already have one, as I found out when I was made redundant and couldn't even get interviews So fingers, paws, claws and everything else crossed please, for a really positive outcome this time. Even though it's not an ideal job, there'll still be plenty of if I get it. PS never did hear about the first job, not even a "no thanks". Very rude! CatieB
Good luck. Positive vibes being sent your way. I agree very rude. If I were you I would make contact with them and ask politely for some feedback, it may also act as a swift reminder that they should notify you. Plus you would look keen should the position, or similar become available again!

dancing cloud
Interfering person has not come in today, but has still upset the process and the interview may not now happen before next Tuesday. As there are then a certain amount of formalities and my current contract ends on 31st March, I may end up taking an unpaid enforced holiday at the beginning of April, even assuming I am offered the job . I realise this may not be a priority for the other people involved, but it's really stressing me out.
Ain't Nobody Here
What a shame, horribly stressful for you .
sparkysmum
Hi dancing cloud, this is all too awful for you, am just keeping the positive vibes going your way Hoping something more definate comes your way soon. Ax
Willow
Hoping it goes well. Whole job hunting process is horrible and worse when you have to decide whether to take a step down as it's difficult to know how easy it will be to regain the previous position. For the first time in years I'm in a position where if my contract isn't renewed in May I'll feel I can take some time out over the summer before I look but it's still making me nervous. dancing cloud
Thank you everyone for your support. I love the fact that Omleteers understand . Now I've had a bit of time, I'm a little less stressed, however people seem to be making a major meal out of something that could just be a tick in the box. I am the only applicant and I have been temporarily doing the job full-time and at a higher grade for the last 15 months ! Barring a major catastrophe, the part-time post should be mine but I'm not good at waiting, especially when the whole process is now out of my control and I don't even know when my interview will be. Could be Monday next week, or Tuesday, or some time when they get round to it ... I understand others have different priorities, but I am the only breadwinner in my household and I want an actual decision. Then I can at least be certain that some money's coming in, and can get on and plan how we're going to manage on so much less of it than we've become used to recently. I've done the sums and I know we can manage, I just want a little bit of certainty - and to be back in control again (control freak alert ! )
Valkyrie
Pantaloons to the fly in the ointment! Big raspberries too! Well whenever they decide to hold the interview (which seems crazy that you need to audition for something when you already know how to handle it and more besides) good luck. Maybe they don't really want you to try as you've already been doing it for them.

dancing cloud
Shocking update and cautious eggcitement - I've just been offered the first job They said they tried to contact me last week to say there was a delay, as someone they needed to clear it with was off ill. I'm not entirely sure whether that's true or whether I was the second choice to someone who turned it down, but I don't really care. It's permanent well-paid employment closer to home Why the caution? Well it's still subject to references etc and some of you will remember there have been slips there in the past. That particular employer is no longer a referee, as there have been several others since, but I'm still not wanting to do too much until there's an unconditional formal offer and a start date. I have told my very best friend here and otherwise it's , even from my dad, as I don't want him getting all happy if there's even a chance of it being taken away. I'm really not as stressed about the position here now

Ain't Nobody Here
That's fabulous news, well done you . I nearly said earlier, don't give up hope like I did to Sparkysmum who thought she'd not got her job as they took their time getting in touch! sparkysmum
Fab u lous so pleased for you Dont worry about references, I think unless you have a gross misconduct case against you, its highly unlikely that you wont get a positive reference. Is this a permanent post Hope it is, temp contracts are such a worry Good luck, dancing cloud. Ax

gavclojak
Well done you! I occasionally have to write references for former employees and I am factual and truthful, there is an urban myth that you can't write anything negative in a reference...wrong! To be honest I always try to emphasise the positives in the references, just because it didn't work out at my practice I don't want to scupper any future chances of employment. dancing cloud
Thank you everybody - it's nice to be able to share good news, even if it's still cautious good news . It was quite a surreal day yesterday ! Because there can be changes of heart between offer and confirmation, I don't want to get too thrilled till it's all signed and sealed. Then it will be The poor reference was nearly three years ago and it is rather sad that one truly unpleasant person with their own agenda could undermine a career of 28 successful years. However, as I've since been working as a locum as well as at Asda, there are now several jobs and positive referees between me and him, and he won't even feature in the reckoning. Bit of a dilemma as to what to tell my current employer re the Plan B job? Obviously I'd much rather have the first job - full-time and on a much higher grade - but I don't want to withdraw my application for Plan B, just in case. Way too much to think about, but in a good way
newcountrygirl
Well done. I have been following your posts. I wouldnt mention anything at all to your current employer until everything is firmly in place. Then tell them. All's fair in love and war.
