Ain't Nobody Here

I'm applying for a new job!

Recommended Posts

After 12 years working as a Learning Assistant, I'm getting a bit fed up and every year as we start a new academic session, my heart sinks at the thought of going back :( . I like my colleagues, it's easy and comfortable, close to home, good holidays but now that doesn't seem enough.

Someone suggested looking at the university jobs websites and I came across a vacancy for an Admissions Clerical Officer for the Admissions Team in the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. It's part-time, almost same hours as I do now and only a couple of miles further away than my current job. I can tick all the essential critera  . I don't have the desired critera - experience in/knowledge of university admissions (apart from through my 2 boys going to Uni!) but hopefully that won't be a deal breaker.

I'm about to send in my electronic application - wish me luck :anxious: .

Hey that sounds perfect! I always thought universities must be stimulating places to work in and busy too which is always good. I would def go for it!. The only disadvantage that I can think of would be the loss of school holidays but perhaps thats not so important now. Fingers crossed for you and many positive vibes. Ax

I'm such an idiot :wall: . I spent days writing a fairly lengthy supporting statement, trying to say everything that I thought would make them at least give me an interview. I tried uploading it to the online application only to find that it's not a maximum of 2,000 words, it's 2,000 characters including spaces  .

So I've had to pare it down to the bare minimum and it doesn't look nearly as good  . Oh well, at least it didn't let me download my 1,200 word statement, that would have got me on the reject pile straight away  .

Just got a call from the agency about the part-time secretary job  . I was playing it down, saying I'm only interested in a job that is perfect, that I'm not that great on Access but am teaching myself online, and it all depends where the school is (she did say and it's ideal).

That didn't put her off and I'm meeting her on Thursday! If I get an interview it'll be on 28th August, by which time maybe I'll know if I've got an interview for the Uni job.

Sounds a much easier job than the Uni one, so that might be a tough decision if I'm lucky enough to be offered both :lol: .
