Alis girls
Anyone done two places in States? We want to do New York then fly to Los Angeles. Has anyone stayed in either places or can recommend apartments, hotels etc. It's for ES's 21st. My uncle left me some money and although it's not lots at least we won't have to scrimp. We usually do Europe but ES keeps saying we should be more adventurous. I am not a keen flyer. I get jet lagged going to Spain.
Cat tails
Not in the USA, but I really liked Toronto. Metropolitan feel, but all in a small place.
Lewis
We did a four city tour (San Francisco, Vegas, Hawaii and Chicago) in 2006, so quite a while back. If I remember it worked out best to stay at the Hilton in every city because for X amount of nights they give you X nights for free and I think you can use air miles. Domestic flights are pretty cheap, it's getting there which is expensive. Also back then we got 2 dollars to the pound and now its 1.2. Did New York last last Christmas and loved it. It's really easy to get around the city, we weren't too far from Times Square and pre-booked a boat tour online, theatre tickets and had a rough idea of what we'd like to do. I found Ground Zero tacky and like an amusement park rather than a memorial; spend $10 and get a free wristband etc.
gavclojak
New York and San Francisco New York is what it is, lots to do and see. San Fran is perfect to add to a 2 centre break, there is enough to do to keep you occupied. Must dos include the obvious I'm afraid The Golden Gate Bridge tour Alcatraz Peir 39 They have amazing vintage stores and vinyl stores! You can drive down to nappa for wine tasting
Grandmashazzie
I love America, they speak the same language! I stayed at radio city apartments just off time square which is very central. Apparently used to be red light area but now not. Lots of delis nearby. Also San Fran great, lovely feel to area lots to do. When we did west course we hired car and did loop in two weeks which was San Fran ,Yosemite , Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. I would recommend that and leave East course for next year

AndyRoo
I used to live in Colorado Springs - it's very nice, not too far from Denver. Boulder and Aspen are also extremely scenic places, although I felt that about pretty much everywhere in that state). I've only been up to Laramie in Wyoming (the state north of Colorado); it's a little bit like cowboy country (or it was 17 years ago when I was there! lol). The only other places I have been are Philadelphia and Los Angeles, but I really hated both. A friend of mine loves New England, Maine in particular. And if you like a big, bustling city, then I know a lot of people who love New York.
Beantree
Flew into New York once and found the airport staff so incredibly rude I wished I hadn't bothered. The 9 hour flight was exhausting as well. The City itself was very dirty, tatty and felt like being on a film set. Went to Statue of Liberty but the crowds were unbearable. Boston was a nice friendly place, despite being the second highest pick-pocket city in America. One of the policemen on horseback posed for a picture with his revolver drawn! The New England Region was generally a nice place, particularly the old costal towns. Florida was very commercial, although Disney World was great. The Florida Keys, particularly the 'fantastic' sunsets, are vastly overrated but a trip out in a glass bottomed boat was well worthwhile. mullethunter
Bean tree I'm afraid I have to disagree about the Keys. We spent 3 weeks in Florida - 16 days in Orlando with OHs family (hated the place although Universal Studios is very impressive) and 4 days in Islamorada in the Keys. Absolutely loved it. I agree the land based bits aren't mind blowing, but we were there to fish, and being on the water was incredible. Such shallow, clear, warm water and wildlife everywhere. I've dived in he Red Sea and in the barrier reef, but I saw more variety of types of creature here.
Grandmashazzie
New England is amazing you could combine New York with it more easily. Few days N Y and then to Boston. It is a lovely city. Easy walking distance to everything, lots of interesting walking tours. We stayed 4 nights in a best western just on pereiphery with tram outside straight down to city in few mins. We then hired campervan and went to Cape Cod. It was a bit tacky. Got ferry to Martha's Vineyard....fabulous.
