Helly Welly
Sorry to be a misery guts but i've been feeling terrible this week and i just need a moan. I have joint hypermobility syndrome which basically means that my joints all bend futher than they should. Whislt not all hypermobile people suffer, i'm one of the unfortunate ones who is in agony most of the time. This week has been particularly bad. OH has to help me dress as i can't bend down. I've spent all this week on the sofa sitting on a heatpad which is having little effect. I've also become tolerant to my painkillers, which are the strongest dose of co-codamol. I walk everywhere on crutches, not easy in this weather I went to the docs this morning and he's given me different painkillers. If they don't work within a week then they'll refer me to a rheumatologist. The trouble is, not many health care professional understand hypermobility and a lot of what they think they know is incorrect. I guess all i can do is be as knowledgsble about it myself as possible and hope that they find a solution. I really need releif from this constant pain, a good nights sleep would be a bonus. Sorry for the whinge!
chickencam
That's what we are here for. Hope you feel better soon, I can't believe the cold damp weather is helping.
Lesley
Oh Helen - what a horrible time for you. Lauren was diagnosed with hypermobile joints when she was having all those problems last summer. Fortunately she isn't in much pain now and it has settled for a while. As you say, being informed can be a help but becoming tolerant to the painkillers must be a problem. Have you tried different bedding? Nothing to do with painful joints like yours, but I thought all my aches and pains were due to becoming older - bought a new mattress topper and it made such a difference. Helly Welly
We got a mattress topper and even a new mattress. They do work but not for long, unfortunately
little chickadee
Sorry to hear about your pain. I completely know how you feel about doctors. I always seem to know more about my condition (M.E) than they do and it can be very frustrating when all they do is read through your notes and ask exactly the same questions as the last doctor did. ( I know they are over worked etc. etc.) I real hope they manage to sort out your painkillers.

Snowy
You poor thing Helly It might be worth pushing for the rheumatolgy referral - I only say that because I've worked with one of the specialist registrars in rheumatology at the LRI and have the highest regard for his expertise, and for that team as a whole. I wouldn't hesitate if sent there!
