Omlet in the Times!

Recommended Posts

hmmmmm seems unlikely the Times would have made it up after getting the quote from Johannes.

Anyone see the stupid comment that was posted?

Hmmm  Omlet have no need to reduce the price of the eglu, the demand for it is so high. Faulty economics if you ask me.

Unless the cut price eglu is different in some way? Cheaper if you get some ex batts to go with it?

Now- do I go for my cube now or not? I don't want to pay top wack if something else is on the cards in the near future........

considering it is an article in the Times, it isn't very well written....

"Chris Evans, the radio DJ, bought a bright blue extended version of the Eglu for his home in Surrey, the Conservative MP, who has one in his garden in West Sussex. "

and

"They each lay six eggs a week. " surely that should be 'can lay up to'. Poor chooks, at this rate they will be expected to come with a guarantee on the number of eggs they lay!

Cut-price eglu???? Bang goes the Ebay re-sale value

Still it is good the amount of exposure Omlet are getting, although I have to say my concerns are growing at the amount of prospective chicken keepers who perhaps do not realise quite what they are taking on, as shown by 'week- old' or 'unpacked' etc cubes and eglus appearing for sale...

(sorry, have I got out of bed the wrong side ?)

A cut price Eglu?

It won't be just the price that has bee cut, but the quality, and then the whole brand will suffer if they are not up to scratch.

:?

We need to bombard HQ with emails asking about this.

It will severely compromise the second hand value of Eglus that people want to sell on. :?

Badly written! :? It's almost incomprehensible, unless there's been a glitch in transferring it to the web page ... "Johannes Paul, one of the four designers who created the Eglu when they were students at the Royal College of Art in London and the Miss Pepperpot. They each lay six eggs a week. "

Who lays six eggs a week - Johannes and the others? I think something's missing.

I wouldn't place too much credence on the 'cut-price' rumour; just because it's in the paper doesn't mean it's true. I would be very cross though, as will anyone who has paid full price for one, and I share your anxieties Redfrock, that people will buy these with even less thought as to what is involved in keeping chickens.

Your post is on there now Christian!

Surely many people currently thinking of purchasing an Eglu will wait for the "cut price" one to come out?

I wonder what the design differences will be?

'm interested because I need an Eglu to introduce my new birds, and then to keep for emergencies. A £200 version might be ideal for that.

I'm glad Omlet are getting publicity but that article is terrible! I'm sure I could have done a much better job of it!

The worst bit for me was:

The most principled urban hen-owners are taking Oliver at his word and, rather than accepting the Eglu’s designer birds, are keeping scrawny “rescue chickens” saved from slaughterhouses.

I don't have ex-bats, but don't consider my birds to be "designer" and I think using the term "scrawny" for ex-bats is just awful  They grow into such beautiful birds with tlc, I think it's very unfair to call them that :x

I think the journalist should be :silenced:

the whole article is badly written, :? and this is going to the world

if any of my students produced work like this I would give it back with "try again" written on it in rather large letters.

I dont know about emails to omlet HQ, what about emails to this "reporter" to ask him to make sense in future articles.

ho hum, rant over

I wonder if they just got the digits wrong for that £200, maybe they meant £300 or perhaps you could just buy a single eglu without the extras for £200.
No excuse for getting details wrong in a paper with the gravitas of the Sunday Times.

It isn't the Worksop Argos.

Here's a couple of thoughts, maybe sales of the Eglu are dropping:-

1. Due to the Economic Climate which we're now continually hearing about, maybe people can't afford an Eglu at the present price.

Or

2. Is the Cube (though more expensive) replacing the Eglu as the No1 selling product for Omlet? A few people myself included bought an Eglu and quite quickly realised that the Cube was a better option (even with leaks) for them.

Also when new(ish) items have been on the market for a while then generally the price drops, think Plasma TV/Games Consules, People pay a small fortune for the new "Sony Type Gadget" only to find it for sale at greatly reduced prices 6 months later.

I agree, it's badly written. I'll be interested too to see what the "cut price eglu" actually is :? .

I think we should have been informed that Johannes lays up to 6 eggs a week  . Has he been spending too much time with eglus? Should the rest of us be concerned  .

Edited to say:

I couldn't let that bloke from Switzerland say that chickens = rats & smell  . I've replied but perhaps it won't get put in :? .

And that bloke Jonathan obviously isn't in education - he can't even spell piece  .

Phew, I am glad you have all only seen the online version, and not the hard copy, where there is a picture of me......

It was taken last May, so over a year old. I have lost 3 stone in weight since then. Not a nice thing to wake up to this morning!:roll:
