Okay this is a bit  but OH and I have only been abroad once to Tunisia, which was wonderful. Next year we are hoping to go away and plan on using a disabled travel company to make life a bit easier. They all offer the usual sort of destinations but OH and I have no idea as to what they are like. We'll mostly be staying around the hotel, although the odd excursion or two might be on the cards. DD would probably like some sort of kids club. Really, we need recommendations of which country, any help would be much appreciated.

Lucky you, Helly Welly! :D I've only been to Spain and Cyprus from your list and I was in Madrid which wouldn't be a beach kind of holiday!

We went to Cyprus about 3 years ago during April and it was magical. There were oranges and lemons growing in the streets and the scent on the motorways was amazing as there were herbs planted down the central reservations. We stayed in an apartment but had the use of a hotel swimming pool where the children would have happily stayed all day. We also did quite a few days out - up into the mountains, to amazing amphitheatres and castles, incredibly beautiful scenery and pebbly beaches. We didn't find a sandy beach but I'm sure they exist.

Our DD still talks about Cyprus and considering she was only 6 at the time she remembers it vividly.I think we were fortunate with the weather as it was a very comfortable early 20's which is warmer than usual - all the locals were still in there coats and jeans while we were in shorts and t-shirts.

I would go back there like a shot. In fact you've made me feel quite nostalgic.

I've been to all on your list and probably Cyprus would be the one I'd choose for good facilites for disabled.

My folks kindly take Rosie and I away each easter and Cyprus has been our choice on a number of occasions. The last place was wonderful; if you look in my blog from here on, you can see some pics etc of the hotel. The roads are very safe, they drive on the same side of the road as us, so that will be familiar. Very safe for kiddies too.

Good luck in your choice!

I'd got to Greece. The people are lovely and the food is fab. I've been on several holidays to Greece without any problems and the Greeks are completely dappy about kids.

I have had big burly Greek seamen fussing over Little Miss Webmuppet when trying to board catamarans (The only English they seemed to speak was - 'Make way Mummy and baby coming' )as they grabbed the buggy and escorted us to the prime spot on the cat, leaving the OH on the quayside with the baggage! :D The same with coach drivers. One place we used to go to when LMW was small (Agistri) was tiny and the local restaurant owner used to get into terrible trouble with his wife for fussing over LMW instead of doing his job!

I've been to Spain and Greece on business trips and would love to go back to either country for a holiday.

All our holidays to date have been long-haul as we knew that long distance travel would be difficult with children.

OH is off to Singapore soon on business and has been offered a ticket for me but I can't go I'm too pregnant.... but I'd jump at the chance to go to any of those destinations if I could travel

Not been abroad yet with the two littlies, but when eldest was little we went to Greece. I agree they are lovely with children! He was made a fuss of wherever we went. 8) Plus I love Greece - laid back, quiet, fantastic weather, plus lots of ancient ruins if you want excursions! 8)

I have been to Cyprus about 4 times now as my auntie has a villa out there which we borrow. We like it lots-gets very hot in the summer but all the places you have named must do to.Also been to Crete which was ok but we weren't keen on the area we stayed in and the hotel wasn't very nice.Just come back from a weeks holiday in Rhodes, which i loved.Probably because it was so similar to Cyprus. The people were lovely in all the places i have been, especially if you move away from the tourist areas and hire a car which is where you find the true character of a country.I'm sure you will have fun wherever you go.We havn't got a holiday booked for this year so will watch this topic with interest to find out where others like to go.

My most favourite places are the medium sized Greek islands & the Spanish island of Minorca 8)

I don't do crowds of tourists, English bars, Football on large screens or chips with everything :lol:

I also actively seek out Hotels that are popular with the Germans/Dutch etc, as they have very high standards. The one we went to last year in Kos was fabulous - it was an apartment but with Hotel facilities,so the best of both worlds.

We are hopefully going to The Algarve in a couple of weeks (its still a bit up in the air due to health issues), & its very nice there too.

I reckon that if you pick a larger hotel, one of a decent chain, the disabled facilities will be better & there will be more to do if you are going to be around the hotel a lot.

Cyprus is great - lovely climate, friendly people and - at the risk of sounding really plebeian - good roads, and lots of people speak English, if you don't want anything too adventurous then it is a great place to go, and as Claret said, they drive on the left! I've been to Spain, Greece and Majorca and loved them all, but for the sort of holiday you're describing I don't think you could beat Cyprus.

Please, please go to southern Cyprus though, not the illegally occupied North Cyprus.

Ive been to all of your list but don;t remember cyprus as i was too little lol

From the others id say be wary of Tenerife. I love it there so much and went alomost every year when i was little as my grandparents had a timeshare there. I would warn you though to check out the resort fully before you go as many are quite hilly or full of steps so not so disabeled friendly. I know that my dad struggled with his arthritis when were in playa de las americas. Las Gigantes is where we used to go and is one of the not so touristy areas and I loved it.

As for Greece ive only been to Corfu (kavos) and I loved it BUT i think that was more for the reps and the activities than the place as it was very clubbing orientated and my mum said she could feel the room shaking with the music (as well as with the earthquake lol)

In spain we went to a fab caravan site in Estartit and i loved it. Loads of pools to choose from - really well laid out and loads of activities for kids. It was even worth the nus journey (36 hrs!!!!) as we went 3 times and never got bored - my mum and little brother did fly the last time tho but for me and my dad the bus journey was part of the fun and some dad-daughter time!

Ive been rto Majorca too but that was only when i was really small and just for one day on a cruise but i seem to remember that it was fab.

I think they're all great places and most have resorts that are really child friendly and the people are all really nice!

xXx

Hi I would recomend that you stick to larger hotels also as they are more likely to offer the facilities you are looking for. As you are considering using a specialisttour operator I would imagine all there hotels and resorts are suitable for someone with a disability. If you decide to use a general off the shelf operator, if you pick a selection of hotels and resorts they should have access to guides which will advise on there location, suitablilty and facilities.

Happy holiday hunting, you have choosen some lovely islands, I personally love Cyprus and Greece, but if you have young children they can get verrry hot in high season.

Def go for Greece - I especially love the island of crete as the people are lovely and the food fabulous! I have also been to Spain which is also lovely and i'm going to mallorca this summer to stay with a friend from uni who loves there. I've been to all 3 of the spanish islands and they are ll great - including ibiza if you go to the nice spanish non-clubby bits :D

Greece is proving very popular in the poll, my only reservation about it is the heat in the summertime, it was certainly almost too hot for me when I went. I voted for Majorca but for any of the destinations, it all depends on what you want, beach, countryside, sights, activities, nightlife etc. I like to go to smaller less touristy parts but these can be too quiet for some.

When you decide on a place, I'd recommend tripadvisor.com so you can read reviews of the hotel before booking, it's so difficult to choose somewhere out of a brochure.

Good Luck and I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time wherever you go!

Thanks for all the help everybody :D

I'm definately leaning towards Greece or Cyprus although more Greece i think.

The accessibility of the resort shouldn't be a problem with going through a dedicated travel agent. I am slightly concerned that Greece mght be too hot, is Cyprus better?

We'll probably book this summer for next year as many places don't have many disabled rooms unless they are disabled resorts. I'll have to put a countdown ticker in my signature, it'll be there nearly a year

Alot of the Greek Islands (esp Rhodes on the Northern side I think) have quite a strong afternoon breeze which I loved. Yes you still need your sun lotion but it does help with minimising the overheating!

Only thing with Rhodes is avoid Faliraki like the plague!

I notice you haven't got Scarborough on your list of choices. :D

:lol::lol: - she doesn't want her mobility scooter to rust up!

Pity you haven't got Turkey or Portugal on the list - both lovely countries and so friendly. We didn't like Spain when we went,

We often went to Cyprus(Paphos) in July/Aug and it was very hot. After 3 weeks we got used to it though as i remember once driving to the airport at night thinking it was cold! I have just got back from Rhodes(nr Lindos) and the temperature was really nice at this time of year and there was a nice breeze most days so the heat didn't bother us as much.

Once you have chosen the country you have the task of choosing where you want to go in that country!

Hi I have been to lots of places on you list - lots of different Greek Islands - but we always go to Kefalonia as we just love it so much, some resorts are hilly (fiscardo and assos) but resorts in the south and southeast are quite flat (not Lourdas though) Skiathos is quite flat.

Cyprus is quite flat and has the advantage of having more hotels than Greece which is more apartment based.

I go to Tenerife every November for a week with friends and if you go between Los Christianos and Las Americas it is very flat and we see lots of people in wheelchairs when we go, it also has a lot of hotels and it is not as hot as Greece or Cyprus in the summer ( it has a more temperate climate) but don't gp to Los Gigantes as this is very hilly - we used to go their the locals called it 'cardiac hill' (We go to Parque Santiago resorts)

errmmmm, it has the Troodos mountains running along most of the middle - some of the highest mountains in the Greek archipelago. You can stand in snow on Mount Olympus and see the beaches below in 80deg heat... brilliant!

Hi

We have been to many different places but out of your list would choose Cyprus. It is lovely there, car hire is great as they drive on the same side as we do.

Used the same hotel several times as it suits our needs as we have a child who has special needs. The hotel is......... The Cynthiana Beach Hotel...... www.cynthiana-hotel.com

Hope this helps you.
