Angels4
My sisters boyfriend just made us the best omlets EVER. Courtesy of the girls. During breakfast this was his choice of music. Her name is Eva Cassiday. They call her "The Song Bird". She was an American jazz/blues singer who first became popular in the UK and then sadly after her death in the US. What a beautiful, beautiful song. ENJOY! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=eUwTdqPkluY
alexgirl73
I love Eva Cassidys music, so tragic that she was taken at such a young age.
Ms Marple
I love her voice also. My favourite is Fields of Gold. Listen if you have never heard it - originally by Sting written as a love song to his wife Trudi Styler. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=L3YVil3Ajjs
Angels4
Sadly, I had never heard of her until today I just had a listen to "Fields of Gold" and I couldn't hold back the tears. Another beautiful song.
Ain't Nobody Here
Very sad she died so young . I hadn't heard of her till she was mentioned and her music played on the radio a few years ago.

Angels4
I just saw her duet with Katie Melua on "Duet Impossible". I'm obsessed with the two of them. I've never heard a better rendition of "Over the Rainbow"

Guest
My Dad loved Eva Cassidy. When he was dying of cancer, the one time he opened up (to his nurse!) was when he was listening to the Eva Cassidy CD in hospital and he explained her tragic story to the nurse. He died the next day. Fortunately I don't like Eva Cassidy as the sound of her singing makes me very sad and the radio actually has to go OFF if they play "Somewhere over the rainbow" by her - we played that one at Dad's funeral as it was his favorite. Then the Cancer Research people started using her as the soundtrack to one of their adverts and we found that really hard. Then Mark Greene in ER died listening to another version of Somewhere over the Rainbow!! Mum wants Amazing Grace at her funeral - fortunately I don't like that either! Tessa the Duchess
I have to be in a certain kind of mood to listen to her music, a friend of mine plays her ALL the time in her car, drives me scatty. I prefer Diana Krall if I'm honest. Tessa
Karen & co.
One of my close friends had Fields of Gold played at her funeral a few years ago I can't listen to it without crying Karen x
Seagazer
I love Eva Cassidy, have one of her cds. I think it was Terry Wogan who first brought her to Britain's attention. Songbird is my favorite song.
Cate in NZ
I haven't listened to her for ages I'm afraid although I do enjoy listening to her music. I'll have to try out some of those youTube links and give her another twirl . Thanks for reminding me
Lesley
I've got all of her CD's apart from the latest. I've been listening to her amazing voice for a few years now and there's lots of her songs that reduce me to tears. Same here - I love Eva Cassidy. I found it strange that she was so popular over here a few years ago but almost unheard of at the time in America! We went to Minnesota and ended up playing our Cd to them. We were there to visit my auntie, who was dying, so I find Eva's music even more poignant now I played it on the drive back up to Minneapolis airport

They evoke so many emotions. A close friend of mine died four years ago and they played Angels at her funeral. The next time I heard it was at my DH's cousin's wedding a month later. I had to go out of the hall and have a little weep. It can still have that effect on me.

redhotchick
Thank you for introducing me to "Fields of Gold" I first heard of Eva Cassidy when a soloist sang "Songbird" at my cousin's wedding at the end of May 2008 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFFo1pu4q7Q There was a thread on here about Eva and here music shortly after that, which was when I first listened to "Autumn Leaves". http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=K7-haKkFnT8 Another beautiful song. Her music is very melancholy, or reflective. I've got the house to myself, a glass of red wine and Songbird on repeat. Thank you Mark for this thread.
