Guest
My poor little Shalott passed away in the night. For those that don't know, Lottie was an ex battery girl who came to us on 14th October last year along with 3 of her friends. She was very bald but very feisty. She's always been bottom of the pecking order but the pluckiest little thing you could imagine. She used to dash around everywhere like a mad thing. She only really started to feather up a few months ago and looked like a different girl when she did. She went peacefully in the night. Ian found her curled up, eyes closed and head tucked under in the coop this morning. She had a lovely 12 months and 2 weeks with us and experienced life as a proper chicken to the full! Night night my little girl, we'll miss you xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Mrs Frugal
I'm so sorry to hear that . It's a blessing that she died peacefully in her sleep though and she must have felt that she was the luckiest chicken to have been rescued from horrible conditions and allowed to live a luxurious life for a year, bless her heart. BeckyBoo
What a shame, how sad, but what a lovely way for her to go, in peace, not in pain and after a year putting right the wrongs of her former life Mrs B

Guest
thanks everyone, we have lots of lovely memories of her and were honoured to have shared our lives with a little hen with such a huge character and spirit. We've been out and bought a cherry tree; variety 'Sweetheart' (very appropriate} and she will be buried under it tomorrow. xxxx

alih
Poet, what sad news but what a way to go - you couldn't have given her a better or more diginified life and passing. It's what we all want for our chickens. Big hugs though, as it's a hard time

Guest
thanks everyone. I wonder if she ever really got over that bout of peritonitis last month, she had to have 2 courses of baytril and we wormed her with a dble dose of flubenvet as I thought she may have had gape worm into the bargain. They also all got a good dose of lifeguard tonic. She really started to feather up and look well after that and I thought she was fine. I s'pose it was just her time to go and I am glad for her that it seemed to be peaceful xxxx
