Wellies...

Recommended Posts

Well I've been desperately trying to find a pair of wellies as my old ones are too small and crocs aren't particularly practical when cleaning out hens in the rain. I went to Mole Valley yesterday and I tried on most of the ones they had in my size and none of them fitted as I have really narrow heels so my feet would just slop straight out of them. Not much use when I get stuck in some mud as that would mean my wellie would get left behind.

Here's a list of all the brands I tried on:

Peter Storm

Cecelia Birtwell

Argyll

Hunters (the normal ones)

Huntress

Border

Safemaster

Now, does anyone have any wellie advise?

On my work experience at farms etc, people seem to prefer Hunters as they are so well made and last a long time. Cheaper wellies can split open.

You can buy heel insoles for normal shoes, and they should work, or if not, like SusanK says, thick socks :D

Hi

This really depends on how much you want to pay my son who is training to be a game keeper buys Le Chameau to keep his feet toasted, warm & dry as he is wearing these most of the day.

But the are expensive starting from about £80.

The grip is fantastic as he can walk up a muddy slop without sliding down or falling.

Old, old story you pays your money you takes your choice.

He goes to a hunting store to buy them.

Hope this helps.

best regards

Hadn't thought of that. Will have to look out for them. I really liked the hunters, but they are a tad pricey-however Lookatmycrazyshoes have some of the festival ones in the sale!

I have similar problem, narrow every part of my foot and shallow too, so most wellie I swim in. My last pair of proper wellies, (which I have on at the moment!) are from Hawkshead http://www.hawkshead.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Category1_11051_12627_-1_12623_10551_12623. Not sure this is much use to you tho', mine are plain black & look very boring (except the crimping around the top, made by one hairy monster!!), and I think I must have got them before Hawkshead changed and cut their stock range considerably! I wear them with a pair of welly warmers, also from Hawkshead - lovely & snuggly!

I have also got a pair of Ryedale leather "wellies", which I have had to return as the inner lining has ripped, however they are so comfy and can be worn at any time (including a funeral - with a skirt rather than "uniform" jeans!!!) they are soooo cool! http://www.rydaleclothing.co.uk/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=81&idproduct=7340

Hope they are returned soon - or replaced I should say, I only bought them in August & they should not have ripped so soon after purchase, in my humble opinion

I would have loved a pair of Hunters but my hubby wasn't that keen on the price :o(

Having said that, my nice and cheap Dunlop wellybobs from Scatts are excellent. They are the first pair I have had since I was about 12 I think and I love wearing them! I will be getting some warm insoles soon now that winter has blasted in with a shout.

my sister will only buy hunter wellies....

I on the other hand have some from Hawkshead...which I wouldnt recommend, as the grips go across the foot, instead of in a chevron pattern. I also bought a pair for husband, and his split, where they creased.....

(So I bought him some cheaper dunlop ones, and they are much better...)

hence my wellies slip, and so are useless..the hawkshead ones..

my advice would be to ensure they have the chevron style grip (arrow shaped) and then put on thick socks...

hope this helps..

I've got Tayberry ones which I've pretty much worn daily and they've had a hard life. I've had them about 18 months and they've now split and need chucking. If I had the money I'd go for Hunters as they apparenly last well and aren't too affected by a 'hard' life. As I am unfortunately brassic, I'll be going for cheap wellies from the garden centre and wearing them until they fall apart!

Ive got a pair of Hunters which last forever when your working in them , but discovered Cotton Traders snow boots last year and lived in them and ditched the wellies, fleecy lined, really comfy and good grip, buy a size smaller than your normal size as they are big .
