I'm coating and wellying up to go and admire, oops feed greens to, my girls now that they've had a chance to eat their layer pellets. It's heaving down here so they're under the new bad weather cover that I've bought on ebay.

Wow. How spooky, it is almost to the minute isn't it?

 

To be honest, I have no idea how I managed it I think its because I am a bit under the weather and he saw how the first three girls had a positive effect upon me and thought another three might help even more

Thanks everyone I've spent rather a lot of time either in the garden watching them, or sat on the sofa by the patio doors, um, watching them some more

 

They are not happy about being kept in the run though. Everytime I went near they charged up to the door bokking and getting all excited. I felt very mean but I want them to take a look round first, get their bearings. I plan to let them out for a short time either Thursday or Friday, but whilst the others are kept in their run. I shall then alternate days out and about until perhaps the weekend after next, and then depending on how its been going, try and let them all out to re-establish their own pecking order. I suspect that they shall simply move around the garden in two flocks, but we shall see.

 

If anyone has any thoughts on my plan, please, let me know, I want to make sure I get it right.

This made me laugh. I remember when I had to rehome my two brahma boys and came back with three brahma girls . Even after lengthy introductions, we were lucky enough to avoid fights and agro but it was definitely brahmas on one side of the garden and cochins on the other. The rest of the girls didn't seem bothered. Now they are best of mates and it's brahmas and cochins everywhere or at least that's what it seems like.

Ygerna it wounds to me as though you have an excellent plan. When I merged 2 x 2 I did the alternating free-ranging thing for a week or 10 days then let them range together. You are right they do stay 2 little flocks for a few weeks and the newbies will probably keep well away from the big girls.

 

I waited until I thought they were naturally getting closer whilst ranging before confining them all into the netted off area. They did cause a bit more aggro because of the more confined space and I carried on sleeping them apart until one night I found a new girls crammed into the rabbit hutch with the big ones. Then I put them in together at night .

 

The only thing I waited more than 3 weeks to do was confine them to the run as I felt that might be too squashed to start with. But you have 2 eglus and I'm sure they will gradually merge. Mine are now a proper flock and it's great to see. Good luck.
