sparkysmum
Not my usual sort of chat, I know but I was wondering if there are any human anatomy experts out there My youngest son has damaged a joint in his spine after landing badly whilst trampolining. His physio told me the name of the joint but I'm struggling to remember All I know is that it has a "z" in it. It isn't the vertebrae itself but maybe part of it.Hope to hear from you. bluekarin
Ouch, sounds nasty. Hope he recovers quickly. All I could find about the names of bones is this http://www.free-online-health.com/spine-bones.htm
sparkysmum
Thanks bluekarin - I checked your link but still can't find the name of the joint. However I just know the right person will come along..........................
Redwing
Sure it wasnt the coccyx? its pronounced coc-zik by some people (including me - not sure if thats the correct way of saying it) so could sound like it had a z in it????
Minnie the Moocher
I've bruised that a few times, mostly when I was small. If he landed straight onto his bottom, it could be that. Ouch!
moochoo
Hi, I'm a radiographer so quite good with orthopaedic anatomy. I'm guessing it's coccyx too. It's the very last segment of the spine sometimes referred to as the tail bone. Can't think of any other part of the spinal column with a z sound in it. Egluntyne
Him Indoors, who has a degree in Anatomy suggests that it might be the Zona Orbicularis but that is more neck of femur than back, and is to do with joint capsules rather than bones. Ring any bells? The only bone that he remembers beginning with a Z is the Zygoma, which is in the skull.
Ain't Nobody Here
Sorry to hear that Alison . Is the poor boy in much pain ? I take it the physio can sort it? I can picture him trampolining from that great video you posted . What a shame he's hurt himself .

I have too, it feels like your spine is going to come out the top of your head! My coccyx has an extra bone in whch fuses it to my pelvis (not that that's relevant!) Egluntine, I just read you post and had to go for a lie down all my OH talks about is XBoxes
The Dogmother
Egluntine, I just read you post and had to go for a lie down all my OH talks about is XBoxes suddenly so glad that he's not coming on Saturday!
Minnie the Moocher
Redwing I hear about nothing BUT the XBox at the moment. OH's XBox has intermittent red ring of death, and is waiting for it to give up completely so he can send it back under warranty. (For the second time )

sparkysmum
Thank you all for your replies. Sadly nothing sounds quite right & his injured bit is too high to be his coccyx. I'll listen with both ears next time I speak with his physio & report back Thanks Ax

Griffin
I broke my coccyx about five and a half years ago. About ten days later I broke the callous that had formed between the bits of broken bone. I swear childbirth wasn't as painful as those first few weeks afterwards

Griffin
I broke my coccyx about five and a half years ago. About ten days later I broke the callous that had formed between the bits of broken bone. I swear childbirth wasn't as painful as those first few weeks afterwards Until this moment I thought you were of the male persuasion! Don't know why. I broke it falling on the stairs. I slipped and landed really oddly on my back. I knew immediately I'd done myself a mischief but managed to hobble to the sofa where I barely moved for about a month Sitting down was excruciating and I avoided it as much as possible, even ate my dinner standing up. I re-broke it by sitting down on the sofa with a bowl of cereal. I felt it and I heard the horrid popping noise it made! Oh the pain! The painkillers made things interesting, I was on another planet My OH helped as much as he could when he wasn't at work, relatives took my two eldest children to and from school and a lovely lady who lived nearby but who until then I'd only chatted to on a forum would come by to walk my dogs. The coccyx is a funny little bone and you don't realise just how much you use it until you've injured it, every single movement hurts! I still suffer to this day with niggly lower back pain. There is a bit of my back which if anyone touches I scream in agony. Something is definitely not right there. The only time it hasn't hurt at all was when I was pregnant with my fourth daughter. I thought that'd be a really painful time but actually my back felt as good as new.

Griffin
We have four lovely daughters but Mr Griffin has had 'the op' to end our breeding days I would've carried on until we had at least six He says I always have too many of everything (see my signature!) but I prefer to look at it as I have a lot of love to give
