Guest
Is it me, or are they making shoes smaller these days? When I was in my twenties, I wore a size 7, more recently I've been buying size 8's. I went out to buy a pair of trainers at the weekend, and couldn't get a pair to fit - even in size 8! I'll stick to my crocs and walking boots for now, but either my feet are still growing, or shoes are getting smaller! Sheilaz
Thank you for that, Shona, I've gone up a size too, so know I can tell myself that it's the sizing. The reality for me though is that I have swollen feet/legs and also they just seem to spread wider & wider. Not just the hips then! I can't get into my old shoes, so it's not just new ones. Oh well, thank goodness for crocs! I'd love to have tiny feet & buy pretty shoes, but never have been able to. Still, at least a strong wind won't blow me over, my feet are firmly on the ground. Cinnamon
How timely this thread is for me. I have just cleared out lots of shoes that I can no longer get my feet into....I used to be a 5.5, now I am really a 6, if not a 6.5 Luckily my girls have big feet, so I have passed most of mine onto them. I think a summer of flip flops & Crocs hasn't helped either - my feet feel so constricted in "proper" shoes now
Mrs Frugal
How odd. I now buy a size 6 instead of a 5! Thought it was just my feet growing along with the rest of me . Stick to your Crocs, Shona. Your feet will love you even if they're a size bigger !
bunee1
Me too me too i've been a size 4 for years but recently i've needed a 5 in some new boots i think it's the k"Ooops, word censored!"bly gnarled heels getting lumpy n old and my toes seem to be off in an odd direction too ....i blame my mum for tight babygrows
Guest
I notice that you all seem to have had fairly dinky feet to start with - mine were already stonkers, and have you ever tried to buy a pair of ladies size 9's???!!
Louise
No but Andrew knows a website where you can get them Shona

ubereglu
My feet are a size 8 and the one's in New Look don't fit me! This is because they go by european sizing-41, but it's actually size 42. Hence the difference in size.
Lesley
I've also gone up a half size - I thought it was just my feet spreading like the rest of me 4.5 to 5 or even 5.5. I DID buy some Crocs at the weekend though My physio told me to stop wearing flip-flops as they weren't doing my calf muscles any good, and then I saw Crocs in Stratford - nice purple ones!!!!. Nicola H
I have also gone up a shoe size especially in trainers..................... I think this is because you do not pay V.A.T on childrens shoes, so manufactures make the sizes smaller so that our children need adult shoes sooner and we all have to pay more. It costs a small fortune for adult football boots which my son started to need when he was only 9, he now wears size 14 but if we had his feet measured in an old fashioned shoe shop he would only be a size 11.................. Cabbage patch you can find out about crocs HERE

kannie
I don't know about shoe sizes, but clothing seems to have shrunk! As do people - you hear about people - adults that is - being size 6 and 8 How come? I don't think I was ever that size! And I never shop in young shops like Top Shop, but when I became a student again I thought I should just have a look. I found one or two OK things in my size to try on, but having queued for ages for a changing room I couldn't even get into the clothes! Haven't been back! Charlottechicken
Is it just certain brands of shoes, as I have some Carvela shoes which appear to be correctly sized, as do M&S and Clarks, but shoes from Lidl are smaller I agree with Kannie regarding clothes, I bought a beautiful teal cord jacket from a high street boutique and the only size I could get into was 3 sizes bigger than normal. I measured the jacket when I got home, it is a size 10 dimension wise but the label says 16 I won't be going back there. Just seen an article about the size zero clothes hitting the streets, the waist measures 22 inches, this was a size 8 when I was a teen! It is all too confusing to shop now! ubereglu
I like Topshop! I only go in there when there's a sale on! New Look sizing is weird as size 8 doesn't fit me their-but in most shops it does!
