Once, many moons ago, i went to an F1 Powerboat Racing Championship affair in Plymouth with a friend of mine who knew one of the drivers and we went into the VIP area - very nice indeed, and afterwards went to see the boats up close - the equivalent of going into the garage at an F1 race. My hubby belongs to a race horse syndicate (I believe that he owns the flea on the bottom of one of the horses!)and got an owners' badge for a meeting at Goodwood. I helped out at a few of the "planned disasters" in the admin cell, signing people in, marshalling etc. One really big event a couple of years ago at Aston Uni happened (a simulated disaster in the city centre), and there was a VIP tour with the heads of West Midlands Police, Fire, Ambulance, Council, MOD, Travel WM, Red Cross and St. Johns were all there, all quite important people etc Well ... because I was in the admin cell with another friend, we had all the VIP lanyards to hand out and there were 2 left Theres us two wondering along and join the group of all these VIP's in suits (us in our high-viz jackets and walkie talkies!) pretending to understand, it was all really interesting listening to each person saying what their teams were doing. We got to go in all the fire engines, massive inflatable army tents/shelter (it was called D.E.N.N.I.S or something like that - can't remember what it stands for though ), ambulances. There was a helicopter but we were only allowed to look! We got back and had sandwiches, cake and coffee, then wondered back to sign everyone out at the end of the day! Brindles chooks Posted May 11, 2009 Share Posted May 11, 2009 Through work (and general jamminess) I went to the Qualifying day at Silverstone last year as a VIP. It was amazing - breakfast laid on when we got there, champagne from about 10am, four-course lunch, posh wine with lunch, and cocktail 'hour' for the rest of the day. Very nice thank you! Saw a few drivers and minor celebs in the flesh and had my picture taken with Lewis's car in the pit lane just before the race. We went Rusholme for a curry & all the locals & some children were banging on the windows & hounding us for our autographs - soooooooooooooooo funny! I wouldn't want to be famous or mighty rich. I've been to some of his IndyCar races on trips organised by the "Investers' Club" which included hospitality from the team. So our "base" for the day was the team tent, we had breakfast and lunch with the team and breakfast on one day of themeeting with Justin himself. Seagazer Posted May 12, 2009 Share Posted May 12, 2009 We also had a share in a horse so were in winners enclosure etc. Hubby works for gaming company so we often go to races and have lunch and tea and copious amounts of alcohol in private function rooms. At Cheltenham Gold Cup we were in the enclosure before the race and Princess Anne walked just behind me and some of the group were invited to go up to her box, it was my birthday that day and they said I should go but I didn't want to. He got us an invite to the opening of "Jurassic Park" and we got to walk the "red carpet" into the show. chickencam Posted May 12, 2009 Share Posted May 12, 2009 We all went to Cheltenham races back in November and were in one of the posh restaurant areas and had a table with a fab view over the racecourse. My OH's firm have a few tickets a year through sponsorship and they had some left from a previously cancelled day at last years Gold Cup meeting but they were only available for a Sunday and they though that clients wouldn't be interested so we had a firms family day out. The children loved it and we got a tour of the weighing room and some other areas not usually open to the public. The most famous people we saw were some of the trainers and channel 4 presenters.
