Where's a good place to get measured for a bra?

Recommended Posts

 at Kerryegg! ( not at the sizing information , but at the sale comment!) Tis true.

In my lifetinme I've gone up & down sizes like a yo-yo, from being tiny when young, to having ahd 2 pregnancies & breastfeeding, back down to small & skinny again 3 years ago when I lost 2 stone in weight, & back up to my present form *sigh*

Most places will do a good job. I went to a small lingerie shop to be measured. I too was wearing completely the wrong size bra....and was horrified at the verdict, but delighted at the resulting look:

I had tried on the internet to do it myself by following instructions, but it just didn't work. The other thing of course, is that every maker of bra seems to be slightly different. You can't beat trying the things on with someone there to advise.

By the way, did you know that you are supposed to lean completely over, (like you are diving into a swimming pool) when erm..... diving into the said item?

Really? I might well fall over with my monstrous bbs at the mo if I tried that. I hate them SO much right now, even more so since a horrid man commented on them as I was cycling to work this morning. I nearly stopped, went back and pointed out that I was six months pregnant and a sacred vessel thank you very much and could he keep his comments on my 'melons' to himself.

I didn't like my boobs when I was a 32FF. Being a 34H is making me actively miserable. :(

I would be careful of M&S unless that's where you intend to get your bras. Once you get to the larger sizes, their sizes are not the same as the outside world. They miss out FF, so their G cup is really only a FF

I also don't like M&S because I went to be measured years ago and was told I was a 40DD; I went to Bravissimo a few days later and found I was actually a 36FF. Mayeb I was just unlucky.

If you have large lady lumps then I would recommend going to a specialist place like Bravissimo or Contessa. (Bravissimo has a better choice oflarge-sized bras than Contessa).

It's also worth knowing that you should get yourself re-measured every so often. I lost quite a lot of weight some time ago, and I'm now normally a 34GG, but I go up to a 34H from time to time.

Edited to Add:

Forgot to say, when I got/get measured at Bravissimo, I tried on dozens of styles of bras by different manufacturers, so I now know what styles flatter me and what styles don't. I also know that some manufacturers ranges are great for my shape, and others aren't. This is really helpful when ordering online, as I know now by looking at the manufacturer and style whether the bra is likely to suit my shape.

The girls there are really patient and very happy to keep bringing style after style. And then you can try on their bra sized clothing. Fab!

Both our local Contessa shops have closed down. I don't know if this is just our area or if they've gone bust (sorry couldn't resist)

I must admit I was measured at Contessa a few years ago and have just gone with their measurement but it really does depend on the make of bra.

My daughter was measured at John Lewis but wasn't happy with their choices so being a big girl up top she uses Bravissimo and is happy with their selection. They have a pretty choice for the larger sizes.

I found M&S were rubbish as were Evans. They reckoned I was a 44DD - went to Bravissimo and came out a 38HH  Best place to get big bras, just try them all on til you find one that fits.

I lean over & flop them in every morning - hubby wets himself. Is that too much information? :anxious:

Emma.x

That is sooo true :lol::lol: I'm so pleased I'm not the only one who contorts to get a bra on!

I would recomend bravissimo for pretty grown up bras.

M&S always measured me at 34B (I always get measured every time I need new bras) but they were an awful fit. When Bravissimo opened in Aberdeen I went along and was measured as 28FF  in some of the styles and 30F in others. I wouldn't go anywhere else now and do not mind paying more for a good fitting bra.

Boobs r us  I thought I read somewhere u were suppose to put them on your kitchen scales. being rather small in this dept I dont think I could do this. Bad enough going for a mammogram and being expected to flop your boob onto a plate thing so someone could squash it :roll::roll:

we have nothing here except M&S so there i go, i've never heard of or seen a Bravissimo  maybe more up north? we had a contessa once about 15-20 years ago and they were great, had no idea they were still out there!

La Senza are very good and no hard sell. Whenever I've gone in there, they have gone out of their way to be helpful. I've used Camille too and never had any problems, but I'm biased to La Senza cos they have some beautiful lingerie in there. That's my biggest weakness in life (biggest being the operative word at 38EE):lol::lol:

I usually go to my local Co-op dept store - they are lovely and seem to know what they are doing. They patiently bring bra after bra until we find one that actually fits - being rather broad across the back but with little up front thats no mean task. I was shown how to hoik my boobs up and drop them into the cups rather than just strap myself in. (It makes sense even though I can't describe it).

Im a Bravissimo girl all the way but was disappointed with their collection of nursing bras - considering their normal range is so pretty the nursing bras were like something out of the dark ages!

I got my nursing bras from John Lewis and after flashing them many times in public places ive had comments about how pretty they are. :D (The nursing bras not my boobs! Althought im sure i flashed at half the town when i was getting used to feeding Isabelle in public!):lol:
