But now I know why. We loved the sax player. What a lovely chap - so humble & gentle. I liked his dress - his hat must be his trademark & he looked natural. We also liked Flawless a hell of a lot - every foot was in time & perfect, like they were connected. I used to be a dancer (nothing as famous as Pengy). It's about telling a story through movement. Guest Posted May 31, 2009 Share Posted May 31, 2009 It's not that exciting. I used to play in a marching band and we were on it one year - there is a video somewhere but I don't have a copy. TBH it wasn't one of the more exciting things we did. Funniest was arriving at an event we did EVERY year, having been booked at the previous years event and seeing cameras everywhere - when we asked why it was because the event had been organised in the "last 2 weeks" by Challenge Anneka. Funny how we had been booked for a year - as had all the other regulars and celebs! Other well known stuff was Blue Peter, Songs of Praise, a kids programme called "whats that noise?", Thames Telethon, CIN, and loads of Variety Club stuff - at which we met pretty much all of the Royal family. We once played for the Queen on the same bill as Vera Lynn and were on stage in the finale singing along with her. The band continues to get great bookings, they recorded with Roger Daltry and performed with him at the closng of Highbury. Yesterday the drummers played at the FA cup final. They did go on BGT last year - the kids were treated appalingly and the snippet that was on the telly was sadly cut as the bandmaster had a go at Simon after Simon was buzzing and Buzzing but the band, following orders, didn't stop - the minder blokes were tugging at the bottom of the bandasters trousers to get his attention but they didn't stop and when they finished they turned and faced the judges all ready for a row! I think that the attention that she has received has been too much for a celebrity who is prepared for it let alone a mere mortal and one with special needs as well. I think the added attention from the US etc is just too much for her to handle. She really should have been better advised and cared for. She is in exactly the right place now and hopefully will be able to come to terms with what has happened to her. It is interesting that the psychologist who used to do Big Brother said the day before the finals that he thought she would not cope and should be withdrawn for her own protection The signs were all quite clear to see but hindsight is great thing. Lets just pray that she recovers and can get something positive out of the whole experience. What a sad indictment on society that contestants in Talent Shows are put under such pressure that they require in patient treatment, counselling and psychological evaluations. Some of us havent been there and done that so find it all very interesting Not particularly grumpy for me! I havn't ever done talent shows - or watched them. I have done a fair few TV shows but as I said some of the less known and shown stuff was far more exciting! As for James - I rarely let him watch TV unsupervised as you never know what unsuitable material he will end up watching. I left him alone when Cathy and Kev popped over and he ended up watching Dr Who!!! I think talent shows are rather dull and not prime time entertainment - however ITV is a good place for them as they are typical of the kind of entertainment they show on a Saturday night. I think they are doubly bad when they include children who should NOT be exposed to this kind of thing - how many child stars have been (or become) well balanced individuals?? We watch the occasional documentary about the beauty pagent stuff in the USA in horror at what these kids are being put through yet we think those doing these talent shows are "cute" I also echo some of the thoughts above on that poor woman. Yes she had a lovely voice but she isn't capable of handling the attention that has been heaped upon her by our celebrity obsessed media. I can see why she wants to sing but she doesn't have a real need to be "famous", she should go out and sing in old peoples homes and the like where she would be appreciated for her time and talent rather than being scrutinised and judged at every step. TBH she wouldn't even make a good caberet singer - horrid though it might seem she doesn't have the full package, to be a performer who doesn't look the part you need to have a lot more than just talent (I'm thinking of people like Dawn French, Alison Moyet, Jo Brand) you need self confidence and that isn't easy to come by. As I said - I find dancing rather pointless, always have. I enjoyed the talented sax player and the comedy dance routine - the guy and his son genuinely looked like they were having a laugh - they would have done well on the RVS then disappeared back into obscurity. Will I sit thought it again - if James wants to, it's only as bad a Eurovision which I used to enjoy! I'll also be sitting through at least one episode of X factor as one of my former pupils is on it, a very talented young man who has been working very hard at his singing career for a number of years already despite being only 17. I don't really think that it is all down to hindsight. Sadly, this was always going to have this sort of ending. I really hope that she does recover but she may well be better off going back to her village having had slightly more than her fifteen allotted minutes of fame! I loved Diversity right from the beginning (and they are from essex ) and my brother placed a bet on them to win when they first appeared and won a fair amount (wish i had now!). Ashley, the main guy and choreographer, is very talented and seems like a decent guy and I hope they do well. Without the show there may not be a place for 'variety' groups like dance acts. I heard a psychologist talking on the radio saying how the massive gap from when then audition was shown to the semi-finals was too long and that the producers of the show should have known how the public wold have reacted - the same as the audience reacted in the theatre. Only 16 complaints were received after Saturday's final. Ofcom says most of them were about the winners, Diversity. In contrast, 331 viewers got in touch after Friday's semi-final. More than half were annoyed that Hollie Steel was allowed a second chance to perform" Why would people be phoning to compain about Diversity I wonder .
