Omletina Kyckling
I have a confession. I've always hated Dysons, never used one, but hated the look of them (like a final year poly project to me!) - I always poo-pooed people who had them.....until......I borrowed my friend's in an attempt to clean my house ready for the big Omletstock craft weekend this weekend.....It is absolutely superb!! Carpets which I thought were clean were half filling the dust recepticle thingy! It was so light and easy to use and I am now in love. The one I was using is a Dyson 01.....I don't want one with a ball or anything, just an ordinary one, but can't decide whether to go for the basic one or a pet one (I have two cats and my carpets are usually tabby coloured!!)......once I decide, I need to convince hubby!! Any suggestions, folks?
Joojoo
I've got the Dyson Animal and it's fab Don't know what the others are like in comparison as I've never had an original Dyson but this one picks up EVERYTHING and you get an extra attachment for the wand which is like a proper (old fashioned) hoover head. I was horrified the first time I used it as I had always thought there was nothing else to pick up I was wrong Have a really good look round on the net rather than buying one from Comet or Currys. I've not bought anything from these for years now. Dishwasher, Tumble Dryer, Integrated Oven, Hob, Extractor all bought online at different times and saved me a fortune doing it this way. They've all got the same guarantees and warranties should anything go wrong and touch wood it hasn't for me
Egluntyne
I love my Dyson. It is as old as the hills, a purple and yellow DC04. I do my major cleaning with it and set the Roomba loose in between times. Since having the Dyson, my asthma is nowhere near as troublesome. A friend has just bought the one with a big yellow ball. She let me have a play with it, and it is very nippy and easy to use.
Lesley
I have an original Dyson - I don't use it as much now as the house we moved into has an integrated vacuum system, but we still use it upstairs and it is brilliant!! It has never been serviced or had anything replaced - apart from the filters of course.
Mrs Frugal
I hated my Dyson cylinder with a passion . Bloomin' thing. The wheels fell off and it was such a lumping great thing to lug around. Mum had an upright Dyson and hated hers too. We both now have Miele cat and dog cylinder vacuums and love them .
Guest
We always loved our Dysons but the cleaner prefers the Henry that was left here by the previous owners.
Seagazer
I think we must have been unlucky then as we've had two over the years and they both broke quite quickly (we're not that dirty, honestly ). We got so annoyed the last time that I actually wrote and complained about them. I know other people who have had them and they've worked well though. I stick to my Henry! stoice
We'd had a second hand hoover, kindly donated by my OH's mum, when we moved in (First house together) a few weeks in and my OH's dad came round with a pressie. A rollerball dyson! Ive never really been fussed with a dyson until i tried it. Something satisfying about seeing the cylinder fill up! I must say, the carpets looked like new. The roller ball means turning round corners is so easy - just using one wrist movement. Makes hoovering fun. I love my dyson.
Ain't Nobody Here
I've had 2 Dysons - the original yellow one and now the purple/grey one. I love them . Whenever we go to a holiday cottage they seem to have cylinder hoovers and I hate them - they make it such hard work and give you a sore back . You could look online - you can get good deals there . stoice
You could look online - you can get good deals there My OH's dad got ours from costco, which was a little cheaper too
chelsea
The Dyson animal is fantastic I love my Dyson. The only thing I find with them they are so heavy. Can't understand why some people prefer Henry's (each to their own though ) I do a bit of holiday cottage cleaning locally now and the owner only owns Henry's and swears by them (mind you she doesnt have to use them!! )
Guest
My first dyson when they came out originally was brilliant like you couldnt believe what I must have been living in..complete filth! Then I had two in quick succession wheels off belts gone etc so now I dont have carpets (so I can see the filth I live in outside inside etc) but I now have a miele and it is also excellent less cumbersome etc and great suction with a wood floor attachement the only thing I buy are the bags easy to change and get them off Amazon(cheaper than John lewis) Perhaps I was unlucky after my first dyson...they look quite spaceage now indie
ClaireG
I had a dyson and thought it was good until it died about a year after i got it. I then borrowed my parents Miele and couldn't believe how much more it picked up compared to the dyson! So we went out and got one That must be 4 and a half to 5 years ago and its still going strong. jlo
I had a couple of Dysons and they weren't bad but really really heavy. I also now have Miele Cylinder and it is so much easier as we have loads of stairs in our house. Having said that, The Roomba is arriving soon
Busybird
I got a Dyson DC01 after using an Electrolux upright and loved it. As has already been said, the carpets that I thought were clean suddenly looked new again However, after about 4 years the motor started to smell of burning. I had already had to replace the hose and it didn't seem to be working as well as before. I kept it going for about 6 months more and then replaced it with a DC04. I hated the DC04. I called out the Dyson engineers twice during the warrenty period but it never seemed to work properly. Once the warranty ran out (2 yrs old) and it started playing up again (it wasn't sucking up the noticeable dirt never mind the hidden stuff) I binned it and bought a Miele. The Miele has never excited me the way the DC01 did when I first got it but it works well on both carpets and hard floors (I have a lot of both now). I have had to replace the brush head once in the 2 yrs I have had it (the bristles wore right down) but, apart from that, just needs bags and filters and does it's job. I also had a Dyson washing machine (CR1) and it lasted about 5 years, slowly deteriorating in performance, until it too broke and was replaced with a Bosch. From my experience, the Dyson products are good when new but don't last.
Space Chick
A friend of mine has "killed" about 6 or 7 dysons, all within the warranty period. I don't know how she does it I want a new hoover as mine is on its way out, but we only have carpet upstairs and on the stairs, so I want something that has a hose long enough to do the stairs. Any suggestions?
bronze
We're on our second dyson. The first one an 01 dh got in about 96 and it eventually gave up the ghost soon after we moved here (we managed to break it moving). We now have an animal ball and can't fault it. Nothing can cope with moulting me, a dog and four children quite as well. I really must clean out the filters etc more often though
bronze
Debs I can have my dyson at the bottom of my stairs and still vacuum the top step. The hose stretches really well

chickencam
I have had my 2nd Dyson for about 3 years now and I wouldn't swap it, except maybe for a Roomba The clutch went on my first one and it screeched like mad, but still worked. Before we got the first Dyson we were going to replace our cheap bedroom carpet because it had fluff welded to it. We didn't want to spend a fortune on a carpet when most of it is hidden under the bed, and the Dyson brought it up like new. They are heavy and we looked seriously at the Miele ones when the first one was packing up, so may look again in the future.
Happy chickens!
Dysons have always broken for me and are a pain to fix. My Miele cat and dog is soooo much better!!
Ain't Nobody Here
From memory I've only had 2 hoovers in our current house and we've lived here 18 years. So 2 Dysons have lasted 18 years between them (and I've not had them repaired) .

Blackrocksrock
Dyson animal here too and love it although it is heavy to move about but the stuff it picks up is phenomenal compared to an ordinary one. I love it
