MadMitch
My lovely big boss chicken Isolde died today. She started getting poorly the day before yesterday, turning purple which pointed to respitory/heart problems and went down hill quite quickly. She spent the morning in her house and this afternoon I took her out and we spent her last half hour sat in the sun together in the garden. She had a massive heart attack at 2:30 and died in my arms. MadMitch
Really sorry to hear that, we lost Florrie today si I know how you feel Thanks everyone. Sorry to hear you lost Florrie too. It was strange putting them to bed, they were all a bit confused. Izzy was the boss and always sat in the doorway to peck everyone as they went in. As she wasn't there I think they were making the most of it and didn't go to bed for ages. Anwen (her best friend) had a good look around for her and went round all the nest boxes to make sure she wasn't there and when they eventually settled they left a gap where she used to sit. chickenNutter
Gosh that's terrible, I have only just got my very first chickens so I can only imagine what you must be feeling, although I know I will have to face it sometime. I am sure she must have been very calm and comforted being in your arms. It must have been the nicest way to go. Don't be sad.
