chickencam
I would like some positive Omlet vibes for my YD Katie who is doing her 11+ tomorow. She has been under the weather for a couple of days, but seems much better now. She is the last of my 3 children to do this, and the other 2 passed and go to grammar school. YD will take it hard if she doesn't pass she has fierce pride. She has done a couple of practice test today and got really top scores, so fingers crossed. Willow
Good luck I have 2 weeks and YS will be doing his although we only have one grammar around here and it's actually in neighbouring LEA so it's not 11+ exactly as there is no option of alternative grammar. ES already at the school so I know what you mean about them putting themselves under pressure to do as well as siblings. How soon do you find out ? for us it's 1st March
bluekarin
Good luck Katie! My DS will be taking his two weeks tomorrow *fingers are crossed* he'll get into our local grammar school. Its such a nerve racking time, especially if the other options aren't good, which is the case here.
chickencam
We are lucky that they have changed the system in this area and we find out on 21st November before we have to submit our preference form on 6th December. It used to be a long wait until 1st March and our local comp was a 1st preference first school so we had to put them 1st then ask for reconsideration when they passed the test and most of the places had been allocated. This left us with another nervous wait. It does however mean that more children do the exam now because it is less of a lottery to go for the grammars. bluekarin
We still have the long wait until March 1st even though I found out at a recent Yr 6 meeting at school that the teachers actually know before Christmas who has passed! I think I'd rather have not known that now, as I'll be looking at them thinking, does what she's saying mean he has passed? Our submission forms for the chosen schools had to be in last month but the grammar had to be first onthe list. We have chosen one out of area one for our second choice and another one whch is in our area but a bus ride away for our third. But I read none of that really matters (apart from the grammar bit being first) as if he doesn't get into any of our preferred schools, he'll automatically be offered a place at the boys secondary. And he is NOT going there I will have no nails left come March 1st

Yes I can remember that 'old' system well and went through it with DD - she is very happy at the grammar, but the wait and stress I wouldn't have to go through again. Good luck going through it for the 3rd time - once was enough for me! Tracy

chickencam
Well she's done it and seems fairly positive. but they are so drained when they come out, they have no idea have they have done. So fingers crossed, at least we will know in a couple of weeks. I have been in nervous knots all morning , but it did give us a good excuse to go to Hobbycraft and buy loads for her birthday. chickencam
She passed Her standardized score was not particularly high, so we still have the nerves of if she will get a place as double the number of girls passed as there are places. Just remember so many apply for more than one grammar that being lower than 120th doesn't mean to say she will not get one of the 120 places. And now the other schools can not use '1st choice only' you are not disadvantaged by putting the grammars down first anyway - roll on knowing the places in March 2010!
