welovemarmite
ok, its not even winter proper yet, but already my hands are starting to suffer, even with glove wearing and copious amounts of handcream.. does anyone have any magiv cures they would like to share.... patsylabrador
I can't remember it's name, but we used to use a cream that farmers use on cow's teats. I do remember it being very good.
meezers
The ONLY thing that works for my hands ( and I've tried them all - got a drawer full of half empty bottles to prove it )is Norwegian formula concentrated. It's about £3.80 for a little tube, but you don't need much and see instant results.
Cinnamon
I swear by Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream, for all sorts of sore, chapped or burned skin. Its actually more of a balm than a cream, & is quite miraculous. Badgers balms are very good too, & they do a builders one which my husband uses,as the skin on his thumbs always cracks in the cold weather, when he is working outside. The Dogmother
you're talking to the expert here, after a childhood of eczema on my hands! I also use 8 hour cream, but the best ever has to be thisGerman stuff, makes them lovely and soft.
welovemarmite
Thanks. I have tried the norwegian one and that doesnt seem to help. Might try and locate badgers balm. I assume I should be able to get that in somewhere like boots? like the sound of stuff for cows!! but think i would be very embarressed going in to our farmers supply shop and asking for something to put on cows udders.... The Dogmother
I think there was a non-cow site selling that; HENthusiastic's OH uses it.
Happy chickens!
Cheap but hot, exfoliate your hands, then apply copious quantities of vaseline, put gloves on then sleep that way - works for feet too!
PurpleTree
My hands get really bad too, the only one I've tried that works is Lush's Helping Hands http://www.lush.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=67&category_id=490&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=80 It does smell a bit weird though. bluekarin
Udderly Smooth cream is the one you are thinking about. It is very good. I've only ever found it on-line as no where round these parts sell it. I am having to apply my Betnovate a lot more (steroid cream) as I find if my hands start to crack, then its the slippery slope to very sore, itchy hands
docsquid
Another vote for Norwegian Formula. You only need a little bit. You can apply it at night with gloves if you really want fast results, but it is brilliant stuff.
Redwing
Udder Cream, £4 for a decent sized pot from your local agricultural merchants - no one can tell you dont have cows!
welovemarmite
apart from my so unfarmerwife look..... going to see if i can pick up some badger balm later..... if not then it might be a trip to cox and robinson and pretending to own cows... if not there is a lush in MK on friday and will be in the office then so can try some of that. Like the idea of the badger balm as its small enough to throw in my hand bag.
The Dogmother
I had some badger balm, but found that it was a bit greasy - may just be me though. Shout if you're in Banbers at Cox Robinson; it's just yards from my office! Tell you what's good - Johnson's Tea Tree Cream from vet stores... BRILLIANT! I even got Jude using it for her cracked hands up at the yard.
Redwing
apart from my so unfarmerwife look..... . No one that ever meets me expects me to have chickens and sheep and be spending my time running round fields after them! It takes all sorts
The Dogmother
Nor me, especially when in smart work-mode!
welovemarmite
mmmmm to much to decide now. Didn't know there was a cox robinson in banbury. I go to the buckingham one normally. Vets stores.....now i reckon i could pass as a vet more thana farmer....... is there a supplier local to you? as it wont be far from me. Egluntyne
8 hour cream or udder cream for me too.

Cinnamon
Don't forget the 8 Hour cream - its amazing, & you can get it on eBay if you can't get into a department store The lip stuff from the same range is brilliant too - I am a very recent convert to this after a recommendation from a friend. Valkyrie
Udderly Smooth is brill (used it for quilting - sore fingers), but like previously mentioned it's hard to get. I have seen some other udder cream in the farm merchants just outside Alton, so may get some next time I venture that way. I'm assuming it's all the same stuff. Other than that we used to get the Hemp hand cream from The Body Shop. Pongs, but good - my dad always used to get cracked skin on his hands and this did work very well for him. FORENSICA
Yes, can not agree more with the Hemp one from Body Shop. I have been buying that one for years! Again, my hands get huge bleeding cracks in them and that cream has been the best I tried so far. Do not like the Norwegian stuff as it is very greasy. Chickvic
I vote for Udderly Smooth - I have lots of tubes of hand cream too but the Udderly Smooth has been the best by far and I get terribly dry/cracked hands.
sadietoo
Another vote for Udderly Smooth here too. I got my last lot from Amazon when I was ordering other stuff so I didn't pay delivery. My sailing OH loves it too!!
