I recently had a conversation with a friend about this.

 

I always put the lid down on the loo at home, and she doesn't, and thought it odd that I do. However, I get suspicious if I go into a public loo or work loo and the lid is down

 

I'd love to know what the reason for the lid is if you aren't supposed to use it!!

I like the toilet lid down - i think it makes the room look tidy (supposed to do something for the feng shwai (or however you spell it...)

 

but I never think to put the lid down myself daft eh?!?!

Lid down at home is fine as it looks neat (Not that i do it often, just when I've cleaned the bathroom really) but to find a loo seat down in public loos grosses (sp?) me out as then I'd have to touch the lid and lift it **shudders and tries not to think of all the people who've used it before me, then hopes there's nothing nasty lurking under it**

I'm all for those motion activated flushers and taps in a public loo too.

Hate a bathroom with an open toilet looking at me. Must have the seat lid down every time. To this day I can hear my mother shouting "have you put the lid down"

 

Sorry if it upsets you in the public loos. It is rare to find them down, so it must have been me.

I think its a man thing toliet seat being up - I put down but nearly living with 3 males find it up. i am suspicious if using public loo if its down as one doesnt know what horrors are lurking therein

Lids.... They have lids...... I just thought that was the back decoration

Lid down, firstly because one of the cats used to drink from the toilet if you left it up. Secondly because now we are all being green and "if it's yellow let it mellow" so leave the lid down to hide it!

 

Of course the 8 year old monster that is James leaves the lid and the seat up and can't actually manage any of the flushes in the house.

I prefer the lid down at home although OH seems quite keen on lid and seat up

 

But in a public toilet :shudder: I would hate to lift it up and find a nasty surprise so always lid up in a public loo.

Seat down always before you flush or all those nasty germs a are sprayed around the room (& onto your toothbrush!)

 

Does anyone else find that they are the only person in the house who can use a toilet brush

Grew up leaving it up but put it down now as the dog will drink from it.

Toilet seat up here - always ready for use. Our toilet is in a room of its own, separate to the basin & bath. Think 1930's style house!

Toilet seat down here. We have a downstairs bathroom which is next to the kitchen, so i feel it's more hygenic to have the seat down. DH is the worst for leaving the seat and lid up Mind you inlaws always have seat and lid up and i'm always forgetting there And yes, i do seem the only one capable of using the loo brush

I like this set up. I can never understand why people always knock them through. If they were separate I might be able to use the bath without someone banging on the door

It's funny how a lot of 1930's houses have this set up. It is very convenient. Knock through..never! Let's just say we have a lot of the original features still in our house including the old fire / range in the kitchen.

Lid up here. I don't like the idea of having to touch a toilet before I use it. I sometimes put it down to flush it to keep all nastiness contained, but then put it back up again and wash my hands.

Always seat and lid down, got intothe habit when Danny was crawling. Had visions of him investigating and falling in head first. Also read that Feng Shui says that if the lid is up your money will drain away. Trying to train the boys to put the seat and lid down after themselves, and close the door. We have a downstairs bathroom and you sometimes can't open the front door if the bathroom door is open

 

Agree about public loos though, I'm highly suspicious of ones with the lid down

I try to have the loo lid down, especially after using, as I have a fear of dropping something into the loo before it has flushed But I am with most of you and like the loo seat to be up in public loos. Nothing worse than being 'surprised' in one of them. I do put the lid down to flush it as well to stop the spread of germs.

After watching Kim and Aggie I wont have a toilet brush in the house - use one of those flushable things - much more hygienic - or wipes and my rubber gloves!! I use Method spray every day so does not get bad really!

Another household with a toilet slurping cat here so the lid is always down. Cat breath is bad enough but cat bog breath

I have fear of falling in without the seat not cos I am small of behind but one cant get a good balance if the whole kaboodle is up. I am sure toilets have claimed many a small child in their watery depths.

Not true, if you keep the lid down when you flush, the spray is concentrated and most of it will go on to you...Nice

 

I can use the toilet brush, easy peasy.
