Anyone on BT Broadband?

Recommended Posts

We changed from Talktalk as they took over our previous ISP Tiscali who we had been with on dial-up then broadband for over 10 years. Tiscali were always good at sorting out problems but Talktalk were diabolical, we were without a connection in the autumn for nearly 5 weeks and I spent over £30 on phone calls and they never resolved the problem (apparently a Talktalk engineer had put a card back in the exchange incorrectly and this was eventually discovered by a BT engineer doing a check for something else!). Sorry for long rant - this still irks me when I think about it.

We went to BT as we are a long way from the exchange and very limited with ISP'S, they also gave me a good deal for the first year but of course I don't know whether that will carry on. So far they've been very good, even renewing all the cabling through our house for free as the connection was poor initially. Also the help line is a free number even if you do have to speak to someone in India.

So definitely an improvement for me.

I wanted to upgrade from ordinary Broadband to WiFi, but Virgin wanted to charge me a lot more/sell me a whole new package, so I moved to BT and I've been very happy with the service. The HomeHub worked immediately - plug it in, follow the instructions on the CD and I was wireless! :D

We have been with them for about 4 years with no problems, if however you do need to sort out a problem then be prepared to speak to some poor soul in India/quote]

I have no complaints

A similar poor soul sorted out DH's issue with logging on by taking over the computer remotely. It was quite unnerving watching the pointer flash about, pages scroll and commands made completely outwith our control. I was very impressed.

I just wish our speed was fast enough to let us get BT Vision.

I have no complaints with BT Broadband, have had it for about 3years, only ever had a few times that I can't get logged on and then unplugging and plugging back in the wireless hub usually clears it :) As far as I'm aware we don't have any limits on downloads.

However DD2 lives in a house share in North London and they have just changed over to BT Broadband and didn't realise that it came with a Download limit and they have already gone over. You don't get told you're going over it just switches to a very expensive rate. :x

I'm with BT, they are very good, decent easy to use home hub etc...

The price is creeping up though, my phone and broadband ends up nearly £50 a month - two years ago it was £30 so I will start actually opening the bills and see where the difference is coming from - thanks for the heads up on the download limits maybe thats it..

We will probably change based on the price but having said that we have had impecable service on the couple of occassions that we have had to call (not problems with their service, just queries on the home hub as we lost the CD instructions) well trained staff in the call centre - obviously working from scripts but very efficient (I think the problems with thee call centres comes when you have a problem not covered by their instructions)

I wanted to upgrade from ordinary Broadband to WiFi

You could have just bought a router, costs around £30 (I suppose i'm telling you this a bit late now... )

BT broadband is expensive, shop around, you are very likely to find a better deal. If you use the internet a lot then Sky Broadband has the only truly unlimited broadband (all other companies have a fair use policy

They just need to increase the package to have unlimited if there are more people in the house using it then the unlimited is better = we are with bt and would not go anywhere else now - been with others and had problems especially as its a bt line too and one bill at the end of the month.

We have been with BT Broadband for about a year now (previously using Tiscali and Orange). When we moved into our new house the previous owner didn't have a phone line so had to have one installed. Went through loads of trouble with BT to just get the line in then when it was it didn't work. Then had lots of excuses about why broadband wasn't working, had to keep ringing them up everyday. We rung up one day and they said that we would have to pay extra to get broadband working and then whilst on the phone it suddenly started to work :?::?

Other than the trouble we have had starting up it seems fine to me. Having alot of people in our family there is a number of us that use laptops and it doesn't seem to effect the speed much.

I have only ever been with BT,and have no complaints.

Just last month my contract with them became due,so I shopped around, then called them.

They were honest about my broadband usage, and reduced my bill by a vast amount,as I am with them for the phones too.

I too am miles from the Exchange, and have little choice isp wise, but I wouldnt touch TalkTalk, who are my other choice, with a bargepole

We use BT at work and have had no problems at all. I did look into it for home use but thought the deal was a bit on the dear side. We use Talktalk at home and I hve had no problems as such with them either.

I think, whoever you pick, you will probably end up speaking to some one 'far far away' if you have a problem.

I am another one who lives a great distance from the exchange and I think in those circumstances you have little choice. What I would say is that we soldiered on for years with AOL after we first moved here mainly through sheer ignorance and a reluctance to change. When they finally annoyed me so much that I had to change I went to BT . I have never looked back and wish I had done it years ago.

BT may not be the cheapest (but the cheap suppliers don't service us) and I have had no problems.

In contrast I can not say a good thing about AOL- so I wont other than do not go there!!! They also have a call centre in india and would not accept a single thing we said despite the fact DH works in IT and knows what he is talking about.

We occasionally paid an extra £1 for going over our limit and they have now increased the lower limit and we haven't had a problem since. As Cinnamon said they are pretty good with loyalty and will give you a good deal if you ask now and then. We upgraded to Wifi after a year and actually saved money and got a free router. :D

We're with BT. Went with them as we needed to activate our line (had been using mobiles for two years since we moved in but finally wanted broadband) and they had a deal on the fee (no idea why flipping a switch would cost so much) but any other company would have had to go through BTs Openreach company and pass on the charge anyway so we thought we might as well. regardless who we go with we only get what the wires can carry, which if i'm lucky is almost 0.75mg! Despite being on the edge of one the fastest expanding towns in the south east we only have aluminium wires. (best is fibre, then copper, then worst is the original aluminium) and no plans to improve this till at least 2013. We're 'so far from the exchange' that the tone was if it's our own fault for buying house without considering this! Anyway, for three months we had problems. Bad line which if it even worked, when we lifted the receiver the broadband dropped off, we had to suffer 11 technicians, countless calls to India, managed to get a British number at one point which was amazing, was called a liar at one point, had something called a lift and shift to another section of line which didn't work. When we started seeing the same technicians repeatedly finally the last guy just put us on a spare line (so sorry to anyone in my road that needs connecting as the only one left is rubbish!) we were refunded some of our money but gave up asking for a complaints form. We were lied to twice by staff saying they had posted off a form for compensation. We couldn't even complain to get a complaints form!

Ok sorry for the rant. Basically if you are close enough to an exchange you may get to pick who you go with. When our 18 month contract is up we're changing on principle of how we've been treated. I know loads of people who've never had an issue with them (from what I've heard I'd also avoid talktalk too as their customer service is supposed to be just as shocking)
