Recommended Posts

being a bit of a wuss at the best of times I tend to snivel over lotsa things.

I was watching Mama Mia at the weekend and the Abba sone "slipping thro my fingers " set me off sniveling - I have sons so its not really relevant but the words are so lovely - set me thinking :shameonu: what songs make you blub?

Hmmmm..no particular song per se but: I was pregnant with son no 2 when Pavarotti died and, as I have Classic FM (or as son no 1 calls it 'Classics Again')on at home there were tributes all day and loads of opera. Being 6 months pregnant and therefore VERY hormonal I cried my eyes out! :(

Hubs came home, took one look at me, after I had explained what was SO TERRIBLE and gasped, with incredulity, 'but you HATE opera!' and, actually, I do (wonderful though it is for some its just NOT my thing!) Hormones have a lot to answer for!!!

I still get teased for it!

That song made me blub the first time I saw it. It actually made the back of my throat feel as if it was burning. I have got a daughter and I was imagining her getting married. I watched it again at the weekend and it was fine. I actually like all the songs from Mamma Mia. :D

Never used to make me cry - but watched the film (again) when it was on TV recently, and being 8.5 months pregnant with little girl I was in floods...

The other one that has always made me cry I can't remember what it is called, but goes "goodbye my .... it's hard to die". Do you know the one I mean?

Slipping Through My Fingers does it every time - my YD is getting married in less than 5 weeks so even more poignant at the moment. On a slight tangent I also find the film Father of the Bride incredibly moving - I think it is all the flashbacks to his daughter as a little girl. Golly, I am going to have to wear severely waterproof mascara at the wedding.

Rose Of My Heart by Jonny Cash - such a beautiful love song and love story (and Hurt as well by him but has to be seen with the video which is truly devastating)

Nat King Cole - Autumn Leaves. Such a beautiful song about loss. We had it at my Dad's funeral

Jim Croce - Time in a Bottle

Honey - Bobby Goldsboro (see the tree how big it's grown and friends it hasn't been too long it wasn't big. I laughed at her and she got mad the first day that she planted it, was just a twig) :(:(

Sand and Water - Beth Nielsen Chapman

this one can reduce me to tears when i'm feeling fantastic

Even more so when you know it was written about a friend of his who died and her 2 kids are in the video-young son is in the background and daughter is sat near the front..

That was fab - it reduced me to tears too :( .

Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright was the first song I heard in my car after hearing that my half-sister had died - it always brings me to tears even now :( . She'd have been pleased to know it was on the Shrek soundtrack CD though  .

I agree with many of these, however my current 'lump in the back of my throat' songs are Marry Me by Train, Travellin Soldier by the Dixie Chicks and Me and Tennessee by Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw written by Chris Martin. As a list it's a bit embarrassing for a so-called 'rock- chick'!!! All thanks to Radio 2 really.

That one really gets me too,in fact I have to make an excuse to leave the room when that part of the movie comes on,as I find it so poignant, now my girls are growing up.

Goodness knows how I will cope when we see it on stage on Friday

The new one by Adele is beautiful too & a real weepy.

'She' as sang by (& this is very important) Elvis Costello, not that French bloke, sets me off as well.

And 'Stuck in a moment' by U2,as it reminds me of the death of Michael Hutchence, who it was written about,& the recent death of my young nephew in similar circumstances.

I adore her new album. Usually on albums, theres songs I skip, but on "21" I love every song. And unlike so many artists, she can actually sing live. Can't say they make me cry but you can hear the emotion in her voice - shes brilliant!

The whole album of Nirvana MTV Unplugged - Kurt Cobain sings like an angel and it turned out to be his swan song {gulp}. I couldn't play it for many years after his death :(

On a slightly dafter note, Duran Duran "Ordinary World". I'm going back nearly 20 years but I'd just found my cat dead under a bush on the road after searching for her for ages and this song came on the radio... with the lyrics "Where is my friend when I need you most?". Still makes me fill up (even right now !).

Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven, written after the death of his own young son. As a mother of 3 sons, I just cannot listen to this song without bawling :cry::cry:

You don't need to be a parent to feel the pain in that song, it's beautiful and an amazing tribute.

Pink Floyd - Wish you were here, and Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush - Don't Give Up are the two that get me most, for different reasons.

Kev.
