Chucky Mama
One of my children asked me if I carried a donor card a few months ago and when I said no they asked why I had no good reason other than the reason that it took me ages to sort out a will...I thought it would jinx me and I might die So, today I signed up online it was very simple CLICK Now I feel rather smug...but still hope it doesn't jinx me and I don't die, if I do you can tell the papers as it will make a story
The Dogmother
good for them for convincing you. I've had one for a long time and Rosie asked to be signed up too. I carry the card and I also wear a Medic Alert bracelet as I'm allergic to morphine; the organ donation is on that too. My husk may as well be of some use when I go. Bramble
Well done!!!! I just consider organ donation as the ultimate form of recycling I've told my family that I will come back and haunt them if they don't recycle every bit of me they possibly can (assuming anyone wants me, of course )
bluekarin
Good on you! I and my hubby are signed up for one. Not had a card through the post, so I guess its on a data base somewhere. Right, just gone to the link and have re registered, just in case. I should sign up the kids, or rather ask them if they want to be signed up. Don't like to think of that though
The Dogmother
I just consider organ donation as the ultimate form of recycling Me too, and I can't donate blood as I'm not heavy enough so I may as well do something useful.
Ain't Nobody Here
I can't donate blood as I'm not heavy enough Yeah, me too . I got both my boys to sign up for it when they got their provisional licences. I registered for one myself recently as I didn't trust the tatty 30 year old card I carry in my purse . Egluntyne
Well done. I've carried a card for years.
Griffin
All of me can be recycled, my death need not be in vain. So many people die waiting for organs so it seems wrong not to donate if you can. I follow a lovely young lady on Twitter, @Tor87 and she was lucky enough to get her much needed double lung transplant on Monday this week. She'd been waiting for four years and reading about the deterioration in her health, especial of late, was heartbreaking. She's doing well and I've read that she's been able to sit up in a chair today I cannot begin to imagine how delighted Tor & her family are. Sympathy to the grieving family left behind by her donor but I am sure in time they'll be hugely comforted by the fact others have had their lives saved and transformed by their selfless actions. cathybc
I signed up years ago and have also told my mum of my wishes. I would like to think of my death helping someone else.
Space Chick
In Wales the Welsh Government is looking into an assumptive sign up, so you will have to opt out if you don't want to donate. I think this is a far better system I'd like bits of me to be useful and live on
Olly
I think I've had a donor card since I got my first driving licence, but maybe I should sign up to the link too. I've always been in favour, but must admit I never thought of it as 'recycling' before! Love it - and on that basis, my family will have no hesitation, as I'm fanatical about rubbish. If you saw the recent BBC programme about transplants, the transformation of the lives of those who received organs was very moving.
keyhole kate
I saw a documentary about organ donation that put me off because there is no brain activity you are considered brain dead and unable to feel anything including pain therefore the donor is not anesthatised whilst the organs are harvested There were surgeons who argued that it was not known for certain if the donors could feel pain but were unable to communicate. It put me right off
Looney
I always think about how I would feel if a loved one needed an organ..... I have made it clear to all those close to me that I am happy for any bit of me to be used again. (Only vaguely connected - sorry - I made contact with my grandfather just 6 months before he died last year and we were only in contact by email so I never actually met him. I don't know a great deal about him personality-wise but I did find out recently that he donated his body to medical research. Something I had never previously considered as an option.) missuscluck
I have a lovley story on the subject of organ donation. My friends husband has been very poorly of late as he has kidney failure. They went for testing and it turns out that she was a match so she could donate a kidney to him. It has taken well over a year to go through all the process medical, psycological and legal to make sure she was not put under any pressure from him to donate. Today they have both had the operation, my friend to remove her kidney and her husband to receive it. Everything has gone as well as it could and to plan. Now for the long road to recovery and having their life back. Selfless act for someone you love.
Space Chick
That is a wonderful story makes me feel good about human kind I'd like to think if a loved one needed an organ I'd donate one
Angie
I used to give blood , carry a donor card and was registered on the Anthony Nolan labs. But since developing RA & FM i no longer can do any, so i came off the Anthony Nolan list, tore up my donor card and didn't turn up to give blood anymore. It was a sad day for me but due to the drugs and RA nothing i have is worth passing on to others. Now i just try to keep mind and body together , keeping the joint damage to a minimum for me. LuckyChickenLover-
Does anyone know if you have to be a certain age to be a donor (I'm assuming you have to be at least 16 or 18 ) Also, are you allowed to do it if you've had major surgery in the past? Maybe they won't accept that particular organ but will accept the rest? This is something I need to look into
snowberry
It's like money; you can't take it with you & it might benefit someone left behind. I can't remember if my kids are signed up or they have to be 16 to do it themselves.
craftyhunnypie
When we registered with the doctors here - we both signed on the donor register. I'm also on the blood donor register. They can have what they like from me. Hubbyy couldn't face going on the blood donor register....wimp! Emma.x

chickencam
I am always worried that despite my wishes my family will over rule my wish for donation if I die. My OH will give blood but doesn't like the idea of organ donation and neither does ED she didn't tick the box on her driving license application despite my persuassion This is why I think that we should have an opt out system. Lewis
We were talking about this with my friends the other day, one friend said she's fine with it all apart from skin and eyes. I think its wierd to think about but think I'm happy for people to recycle my organs, have just have never signed up. Was about to do it but though I should tell the parentals first! Don't remember the Q when getting a driving licence so can't remember what I said. I should really give blood too but have never got round to it! Seagazer
They can have what they want apart from skin and eyes - for some reason that just makes me feel icky. I've only got one kidney so there will be a shortfall
