Poorly! Gallbladder **Am home

Recommended Posts

I'm feeling really sorry for myself & quite low & weepy. I am pretty sure I have gall stones. I have had pains on and off since October. I was advised by my neighbour who knows some holistic type vegans, to put Flaxseed on my food. This did help & the pain became less frequent. However, this past week - I thought I was literally having a heart attack. The pain is so intense I think I am going to pass out. It sometimes starts in my right shoulder blade, sometimes in the middle of my chest between my boobs, sometimes in the top of my belly. I was sick the other week in the night with it. But then Wednesday this week I was sick again. Last night, sick again.I've had pain all day, just feels like a big jubilee clip being tightened round my ribs. Earlier about 4.30pm I was so hungry that I thought I'd try some Weetabix. I had previously been drinking warm apple juice - as had read this was a good thing. At 5pm I was sick again. So I am sooooo scared to eat anything. I am sooo hungey & weak feeling though, that I risked two small slices of bread with a thin spread of jam on - to try & get something in my tummy. I have also just sipped a mug of hot water. So far so good. My urine is extremely dark too ( too much info there sorry).

My hubby has to show his face at a caravan Annual meeting weekend,as he is coming off the committee & had to hand over the laptop, printer, paperwork etc to the new committee member so I am on my own until Sunday afternoon & feeling pretty tearful. I've also got the chickens to tend to. I am at the doctors Monday morning. So worried. I can't carry on like this though.

Any nurses recommend anything I could try eating in the meantime that shouldn't cause pain? I am totally exhausted.

Go to A&E! You are clearly in pain and suffering lots and should not wait till Drs opens Oon Monday - they may very well send you to hosp anyway. Go now - tho if you can avoid times over the weekend when those who have imbibed none to wisely you will get seen sooner! If OH is away can you take a friend with you to act as advocate if you are feeling rough?

Push to be seen - you are the best one to know when things are not right so don't take NO for an answer! BE ASSERTIVE!

Big hugs and let us know how you go! :anxious:

I have gall bladder sludge, and find it plays up with acidic things, can't have orange juice at all.

Others suffer with too much fat. Others with spicy things.

So I would eat a fairly bland diet until you see the doctors, beans on toast, eggs etc

Hope you'll be Ok Emma, big hugs xxx

I wouldn't go to A&E but an out of hours GP would be a good idea.

I had a gall stone a couple of years ago, which happily passed & I have been fine since.

The pain is VERY intense & VERY specific....right side, just under the rib cage.

I had a scan which confirmed it,& it was so uncomfortable that I am convinced it was that that made it pass through!

I too was too scared to eat,as it made it much worse.

Could it be trapped wind - that can be excruciating.

Them Wind-Eze gel caps work for me!

No it's not trapped wind Cinnamon - as I am sick & it's been going on too long now. Plus my nana had gallbladder trouble. :( No, not going A&E. I will wait until Monday - plus don't fancy driving 25 minutes to Aberystwyth Hospital, plus no friends here - only our two neighbours - who I wouldn't want to trouble. No will wait til Monday.

I am concerned about the dark urine - anyone?

The bread & jam have stayed down so far - thank god!

Here's praying for a restful nights sleep! ( please, please, please).

Are you still struggling Emma? I am horrified you have not gone to A&E gall stones are agony and the dark urine means that you are dehydrated. If you are alone in the house all w/e I think you could be putting yourself at risk. Surely your neighbours would deal with the chooks. Please ring the out of hours doc they will come to see you. Let us know how you are getting on. Worrying about you.

You should go to A&E, or at least call an out of hours GP. If a stone gets stuck in your common bile duct you will develop jaundice and this will need urgent attention, plus the pain is beyond description. Please seek medical help, particularly if the pain gets worse, you become jaundiced (check the whites of your eyes for yellowing) or your urine continues to darken.

Plenty of clear fluids and a very low fat diet will help. When you eat fat, it causes the gall bladder to squeeze bile into the gut, and if there is a stone in the works, this is where the pain kicks in.

Put your health before Printer Handover!!!!!!!!!! My mother had gall stones years ago & could only describe it as an elephant sitting on her; we were terrified (kids). She then developed jaundice & lay on the sofa for months recovering. So nip it in the bud & go to A&E NOW or the out of hours doctor. If you leave it you might do more damage hun; in the meantime, porridge is quite neutral to eat; keep us informed :?

My dad used to suffer terribly, and the doctor came out a few times, he told him the last time that if he had pain like that again mum should call for an ambulance. In the end he had his gall bladder removed and was fine after that.

Mum has also suffered on and off and found she could tolerate rice cakes and oat cakes.

I agree with the others, don't take any risks with your health, if you are in that much pain, get to A&E!!!

How are you doing today, Emma?

I can understand you don't want to go to A&E, fair enough; that's your decision to wait until Monday and I respect that. Would you consider giving NHS Direct a call for advice in the meantime?

Please do check in as often as you can over the weekend so we know you are ok ((hugs)) nothing worse than being ill and alone.

How are things today? Better I hope.

Just to reiterate, please go to A&E if your symptoms continue and especially if they worsen. Far better to be sent home after examination and to be told that it is indigestion than to sit on it at home and for the situation to turn into a surgical emergency.xx

I also think you should go to A & E if you are in that much pain or an out of hours doctors.

The doctor never thought my mum's pains were gall stones as she didn't fit into the three F's, fat, fair, forty. She ended up actually collapsing on the floor of the doctors surgery one day. Please don't let it get that far. She had her gallbladder out (as have her brother, sisters, parents, some of my cousins etc.)

I hope, if its a stone, that it goes through but please look after yourself.

I would seek help sooner rather than later too. I can appreciate that you may not want to bother people over the weekend but if you have to call an ambulance or a doctor out in the middle of the night after you have been ill for some time they will wonder why you didn't seek help sooner. These things always get critical in the middle of the night, just like pets always get ill at the weekend  The sicker you become and the more complications there will be and the longer your recovery. Your doctors surgery should have a Saturday morning emergency clinic. They can assess you there and refer you to A&E if they feel it necessary.

(am hoping this is academic and that you got help last night  )

Morning all! The mugs of hot water really helped & I had a pain free, good nights sleep! Hooray! Feel ok today, no pain but tired. I risked some beans on dry toast as was so hungry. So far so good! Still on the mugs of hot water, find those very comforting & soothing.

Hubby is back tomorrow afternoon & doctors first thing Monday.

Having a relaxing day today on the settee & will hopefully put my mind to some knitting & crochet. Can actually concentrate today for once!

Hope you're feeling okay this morning Emma...

It must be awful for you to be in a new place on your own for the weekend when you're feeling so poorly.

I would get yourself checked out if I was you- I'm sure your new neighbours would be happy to help out if they knew how unwell you were feeling.

xx

Mum had undiagnosed gall stones. we did chicken breast, no skin at all, and rice, just a tiddy portion, and that seemed to calm things, and provide the nutrients. No fat, as this can set things off.

Take good care until Monday, and if it does come roaring back, at least ring the out of hrs doc, who might drive over?

Hugs from very blowy Devon.Xx

I've been told eating fresh fish will help too. We don't eat chicken, for various reasons. My nana lived on fish before her operation. Stank the house out!

Wondering what to try later if I get hungry. I'm not going out anywhere to get things in specially. Don't fancy driving anywhere - plus the weather is a bit wicked too!

Village shop shuts at 2pm, but they have no more than I have already got in my fridge/cupboards/pantry.

I did wonder about making some Easy yo up (yoghurt), but worried it might set it all off again being dairy??

I've lost 4lbs in weight since yesterday. Not a good way to lose it though.

Sure I had this over the summer, was camping with friends and collapsed (onto the BBQ :anxious: ) trying to get some water just as everyone had gone to bed, luckily one friend was still up to save me.

Felt like I'd been stabbed in the middle just under my ribs and was there for about half an hour (seemed like longer!), went all hot + sweaty and struggled to breathe. Hadn't had a drink 'cos was driving to work early next morning.

Was SO tempted to call an ambulance but started to get better so we didn't in the end.

Its not nice! :(

Someone told me apple juice is good to drink so give that a try.

I'm not far if you need anything, just give me a text/call x
