missuscluck
I'm really enjoying this too and defiantly will be downloading the first of the books to read. I love books with a modern history vein and if they are true stories all the better. Fantastic. I love Miranda anyway. Win win for me
keyhole kate
The Author Jennifer Worth lived here in Hemel Hempstead there have been several articles in our local paper the HH Gazette and a set of twins from the town were also chosen to appear in the Drama. Lesley
I've read all three of her books and was a bit wary but I'm really enjoying it.....and I love the casting of Miranda!
Ain't Nobody Here
I've just caught up with this too and loved it . It's so moving in places but the bits of humour lighten things up. Miranda Hart is great in it .
Guest
A good friend of mine was a midwife and has enjoyed this programme. I am goin to take her into work soon to show her where it was filmed!
Alis girls
i cried when Mr Collett died - snuffling away on the sofa - kids and OH laughed - heartless lot - i bet chummy and copper get wed.
chickencam
Mr Collett's story in the book is even more heart wrenching, the elderly think that they get a poor deal today, they know nothing.
Alis girls
have got book but not started it yet - saving for a rainy day.
Alis girls
Have finished all 4 books. I found book 4 heavy going as less story and more stats etc. I was shocked that the flats Mr Collett lived in - in book where condemmed as an ex boyfriend (medical student ) lived in Alberta House on the Ilse of Dogs in the 1980's - they had no central heating but did have indoor bathroom. Obviously not condemmed. A patient warned me re moving into a street near Cable street (red light district in the book) she said it was a dodgey area - wasnt when I lived there - last programme tommorrow - Sunday evenings won;t be the same
Mum
... Ilse of Dogs in the 1980's - they had no central heating but did have indoor bathroom. Obviously not condemmed. ... I lived on the Isle of Dogs 1979 - mid 1980's; you are quite right, no central heating - but that was not unusual at that time; indoor bathroom was a point of fact - but very utilitarian as opposed to aesthetic!!! Around that very same time, locally, people were considering moving to the newly developed "Milton Keynes"! Many did! It is my belief that the style of housing I inhabited at that time is still in use today. How far it has been brought into the 21st Centuary is an entirely different debate and one I cannot possibly comment on Simply one I relate to of that era. The Dogmother
My friend is an original east ender and her mother has only recently moved from her flat in that area (where my friend was born and brought up). They had an inside bathroom and the flat was basic but perfectly comfortable.
craftyhunnypie
Does Chummy become a nun? Oh & does one of the other Midwives get pregnant? Just predictions! Emma.x
Alis girls
No and no - several do but not out of wedlock and Chummy gets her man. One does leave midwifery. Jenny and Cynthia are now sadly deceased - doesnt say about Chummy and Trixie - in the Mail today an article on the actress who plays Trixie says they are trying to locate the real "Trixie" if she is still alive. Doesnt mention Chummy at all.
Alis girls
The Radio Times are trying to find Chummy but all leads have lead to nothing so far. She and her husband went to Sierra Lione as missionaries but after that who knows.
BERTIE MCSQUIRTY
my nephew is acting in this drama...his first debut was a couple of weeks ago (as the dad who'se baby was kidnapped)..he has more story lines to come

The Dogmother
Ahhh, now I read that some of the characters are actually fictional... I didn't really read the article properly but I think this was confirmed by someone who'd been there at the time. Ahhh, here it is.... Alis girls
Lovely story - sad that Chummy is fictional as to find the real Chummy if she were alive would make great reading.

Snowy
Ooooh it was lovely. Those triplets were a good size. Well I guessed at twins, but triplets was a bit of a surprise!
Alis girls
Triplets I only saw 2!!! Must have had a micro sleep Loved the bit where Chummy propositioned her man in her frumpy mack I bet they had a laugh filming that. The books are fairly explicite in parts - can;t quite get my head round nuns reading them. The nuns I worked with would have died of shock. I suspect they are more liberal and open minded today - I have 2 patients who are nuns and they are able to watch TV - seems anytime. I know one watches Doctors. I will go back and watch for the missing baby
Alis girls
Yup missed one - thank goodness for scans the thought of carrying 2 or 3 and not being prepared must be a shock to say the least.
The Dogmother
Wasn't it a lovely last episode?
bluekarin
I loved it! Can't wait until the next series. I sort of guessed it was going to be twins, but not triplets! I'm slightly disappointed that the Chummy character was just that. I saw some interviews with Miranda about the role and I got the impression she was just like the real person
