Mammogram recall

Recommended Posts

Thank you Anne. I won't hijack this thread other than to say that she was rushed in three months ago for an emergency appendectomy which has turned out to be aggressive bowel cancer. She was told at the beginning to the week that it is terminal which has devastated us all. I take heart from your positive news. :)

Skimmed thro thread and glad all ok. Ladies (puts on nurses cap) my mum died of an interval cancer (one that didnt show up on mammogram but developed in less than 3 yr period ) however I know of at least 5 women whose cancers were discovered early by mammogram and hadnt materialised as a feelable lump. No test is 100% proof but no feeling around every month is either. Get to know whats normal for you. Glad its good news

Also just catching up - so glad you had the all clear - I had a recall last year, 2 biopsies then surgery and 15 days radiotherapy later in the year - I had DCIS which they wanted to take away and zap in case - I was lucky and this year first annual clear mammogram and will have every year for the next 5 years. They do look after you - we are very lucky in this country.

Thank you - it was good to just keep positive and keep going - the moral is never miss a mammogram appt or change it if you have to - my friend had to cancel as she was away and they were not going to give her an appointment till next year - she was astounded by that and forced another one. If we are caught with this disease early then it is a good result.

Sorry to be a boring old fart and go on and on and on but that goes for smears too ladies. Glad all results are ok. Ali x

Ali, as they seem to be forever changing the intervals for smears (altough they probably don't  )I always ask each year when mine is due.

Dear All,

This has been an enlightening and positive thread- my thanks. It is good to read the encouragement and stories of hope and success. Glad to hear your news Blackrocksrock.

My best friend Ann (ever since we first met at 15 when I returned to live in this country, so 37 years ago) sadly died of bowel cancer last Sunday. It was a very short fight, if fight is actually a word that can be used here as she never actually go to the chemo stage. 3.5 months from start to finish. The funeral was today and I am now trying to regather my fighting spirit as inside I have felt so angry. She would not want me to be any other way I know that! It was interesting to learn form Vicki that in Scotland that start screening for this awful cancer at 50 rather than 60 ( in England). She might have stood a chance. She, like me was 52.

I now have a small battle of my own, which I am being positive will come to nothing, but it is true, it does niggle away at you. Last Sunday, I also found a lump and I am now waiting for the appointment next Monday to check it further. I had a mammogram earlier this year which was clear. I also had a cyst about seven years ago so I am hoping that this will be the same. The ability of one's mind to create a drama however....... and suddenly your fingers seem to be constantly looking for it- I suppose in the hope that you might have imagined it! Anyway.. I will let you know.
