Lesley
My OH left early to work in Birmingham today.......I've tidied up and cleaned the floors......I will be able to see the house looking reasonable for longer than half an hour I'm going to look at the floors all day! The dogs will be kept in the utility room after their walks until they are dry.....not until 'somebody' thinks they are dry! We'll soon be back to normal as he'll be working from home Thursday and Friday On the other hand.......it will be very quiet and I miss him when he's not here.......and the dogs are moping already
SarahJo
why do dogs mope - not like the women folk never look after them! Enjoy the clean house Lesley - my boys have gone swimming training with OH so I am enjoying a little peaceful cuppa - back to work for me tomorrow so OH can clean our floors
Lavenders_Blue
Hubby and I are both back to work today too Not looking forward to it in the slightest - I've had such a lovely time off over Christmas.
Olly
I took today off because I knew I'd feel and - I was away at the weekend, then went on somewhere else for New Year's Eve, and only got back at 2.30 yesterday - hadn't really cleared up after having visitors for Christmas, and the house was a mess. I had a massive tidy-up last night, my cleaner comes on Wednesdays so she hasn't been for two weeks, and I want her to clean, not move my clutter around. While she's here I'll go out to take some stuff to the charity shop and then when she's finished, I'm going to start decluttering again as there are many, many more cupboards to go through! And I might get going on one of my crafty UFOs while watching a DVD. Back to work tomorrow.
patsylabrador
I love the day, usually 2nd January when you feel the next year begin. I love Christmas but cant wait to crack on and get things back to normal. Lots to think about - what to do with the garden this year, experimenting with my new kitchen gadget, knitting socks which sounds dull but I'm finding absorbing. OH wants to go to Munich to see the Toy Dolls and we've got more planning and saving to do for motorbike trip across America. Oh yes, and I love housework after christmas. Egluntyne
Back to work tomorrow. Have tidied a couple of cupboards ready to take the unwanted contents to the charity shop. Feeling very virtuous.
The Dogmother
I actually kind of look forward to getting back to work and the normal routine. Spent most of the Christmas break making 'duty visits' to relatives so didn't get all the tidying and jobs done which I'd intended to do Am going to have a massive blitz though and get loads of stuff on ebay/freecycled/to the charity shop. We took the tree down yesterday and put it out for collection, more or less back to normal now.
Ain't Nobody Here
I'm all alone too, my 3 have all gone to the Borders for a hill race. When they come back, there will be wet, muddy, sweaty clothes and size 11s all over the place . Back to work next Monday but as I've not had a good night's sleep for almost 2 weeks due to incessant coughing, I'm not really feeling up to doing anything remotely resembling housework. patsylabrador
ANH , this might sound awful but lukewarm camomile tea with lots of honey is soothing. I constantly sip it all day long and help myself to spoons and spoons of honey. I find any remedies with lemon itch me and make me worse. I think constant sipping warm drinks of any type would be helpful. That's what I do anyway and it helps me.
The Dogmother
Manuka honey always works here, hope you're better soon.
Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks, guys. Think I must be feeling a bit low generally as I burst into tears reading your posts . I'll try the honey (it'll have to be peppermint tea, got no camomile!)
bluekarin
Hot honey and lemon (with a wee dram for bedtimes) is great for making you feel better. I have a horrid cold, and a cough - nothing as bad as yours, but it does help sooth and I had the best nights sleep for almost a week last night. Still feel shattered, but my eyes don't hurt as much as yesterday. I hope you feel better soon ANH. Also, if it is closer to three weeks with a cough see your dr as you might need antibiotics. They don't do anything before the 3 week as coughs usually go before then. If you see what I mean.
Charlottechicken
A female firefighter I know has had suspected whooping cough over Christmas She has to get a blood test so they can see if she has had it. She lost her voice for several days and made herself sick from coughing. I am off work until 7th January, it's been great apart from the flu! Space Chick
Getting towards the end of my first day back, and having a quick pop on as I'm out tonight at band practice. Thought I'd share an amusing story (well it amused me!) We have 5 offices across South Wales, I regularly work out of 3 of them. Today, I'd arranged to be at the Swansea office... which is my nearest office, so I cycled in (7 miles each way). Got into my emails, and a meeting had been put into my diary for the Cardiff office at 11 I rang to explain I was in Swansea, and I could get the train if I was needed or I could dial in. Was asked why I couldn't drive to Cardiff... explained that I had cycled in. The meeting...... a Health and Well Being meeting, where 1 agenda item was promoting cycling to work You couldn't make it up I dialled in
Luvachicken
I don't go back to work until 7th Jan as I work in a preschool but I hope all of you that have gone back today had a nice day.
Purplemaniacs
Space Chick that made me laugh and OH , he cycles when he is in London on Borris's bikes. I am back tomorrow as I work in a school. I try to be positve about going back after holidays since my friend who I have worked with for over 15 years was diagnosed with a brain tumour last June, I know she would love to be coming back to school. Hope all those who have been to work today have had a good day and those at home clearing up . Chrissie
counturchickens
Not back until Friday, so gardening tomorrow I booked an extra couple of days off as only back from visiting the in laws in Scotland, and I need some time at home to recover we're having an early burns night for some friends on Saturday, so looking forward to that. Then back to normal eating and drinking levels.
charly1979
My hubby went back to work today which whilst I like having him home he does tend to annoy me a little, I have also tackled the house but my 3 kiddlings dont go back to school untill Monday 7th so it was the usual going round tidying after them only to have to do it again. I did manage to get the kitchen floor cleaned after the nearly 11yr old daughter made jam tarts. I nearly started a topic in her 'How long would it take for the floor to be messed up and who would be the first to do so, cats, children or me ?' As it happens within seconds Eyore trotted in over it with muddy prints and then the 3 yr old managed to scuffed it all up with his toy trains Still it all fun isnt it ??, ANH hope you start feeling better soon
Cinnamon
I went back to work on Monday,New Years Eve. I only work Monday & Tuesday,so this year has been great for me.....I didn't have to work the Monday on Christmas Eve either But NYE - Hell on Earth for a supermarket worker. Relentless people, screaming fed up children, customers wanting people to pack for them when we were 5 deep at the tills,......... My arms & shoulders were killing me by the end of the shift & my head was splitting from the sheer scale of volume. More id checks too, & a much larger number of young people who had 'forgotten' their id
SarahJo
my place of work is great - especially when there are no pupils or teachers back till Monday Fish cleaned, snakes watered - gecko's pick up tomorrow
HennyPenny59
Hubby went back to work on Wednesday along with DS and DD ... I didn't like being alone after nearly 2 weeks of having my family around me, and had an emotional moment around mid-day. I decided I needed to get out of the house, so I went out into the garden and spent some time with the chooks, and thoroughly cleaned out the Guineas. I felt more positive after doing that and knuckled down to some serious housework for a couple of hours until everyone came home. Im going back to work on Monday, and i'm glad, as i'm definitely not one for being home alone

Goosey Lucy
Me! The holiday went by in a blur of cooking, coughing and feeling like death. We've not even had any Christmas pudding or cake yet. No-one's complained so I guess it's me that makes them have it. Oh well, back to work Monday.
Willow
Back to work Wed but all working from home this week fortunately. Ain't Nobody Here
The holiday went by in a blur of cooking, coughing and feeling like death. Me too . I've given up waiting for my cough to go by itself and have got a doctor's appt this morning. Back to work on Monday so really really want to get some sleep and stop coughing . Oh, and to be able to hear properly again would be useful.
