facial skincare

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering what skincare products you had used or tried and what you'd recommend?

I've been using Neal's Yard Remedies for quite a while - I love how their products smell and feel, that it's mostly organic and that it is produced by a small company.

However, I just found a little sample bottle of Clinique Clarifying Lotion in the bathroom and tried it - I thought it smelled and felt quite harsh, but I have to say my face feels markedly different - my skin feels much smoother and softer and my pores are definitely clearer.

Thanks!

I found a line at the health food store down the road from me that I love! I had a store coupon and decided to try the Living Clay face and body scrub because my skin had been looking and feeling a little dull and rough. I sampled some other products and wound up going back for the Rejuvenation Face Cream which wasn't cheap, but my skin is looking and feeling so much smoother! The scrub was a little irritating at first because it has peppermint oil in it, but I only use it once a week and it seems to be calming down in intensity.

I keep it as natural as possible and try to use products that were known about centuries ago. I'm wary of rubbing chemicals into my skin that are new and 'miraculous'. If it was good enough for Cleopatra then it's good enough for me. Hence, I have a daily bath in asses milk and keep contact with asps to a bare minimum.

My favourite at the moment is jojoba oil with whatever essential oils I'm in the mood for and then the brilliant Cotswold Lavender Body Butter. It's very thick and so only a tiny bit is needed but I love it on my skin and hate to be without it.

I have quite sensitive/allergic skin - anything by most of the big names doesn't agree with me

I use: Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish (or decleor cleanser if it's come free with something else, which it often does - love the smell). Decleor neroli or anti-aging oil (mostly in the winter/when I remember). Favourite moisturiser by far at the mo - Elemis pro-collagen marine cream - fabulously moisturising, but also goes well under make-up; Aveda Hand Relief hand cream (usually) or l'occitane's shea butter hand cream in the winter/when my hands are being allergic/extra dry

I used to use all sorts of lotions and potions, Clarins, Estee Lauder. After spending a week treking and camping in Mongolia with nothing other than water wipes, river water and bog standard nivea cream my skin was amazing, have stuck with it since and saved myself a fortune!

I do still use 8 hour cream as a lip balm though.

I do product testing,so most of my skincare is smaller sample sizes, which I then give an opinion on.

However,I do tend to fall back to products I love.

I like Garnier moisturisers & use the green one a lot - it smells lovely & fresh & works well for me. The one that reduces dark spots is great too & I have noticed a real improvement to little sun spots on my skin with this.I also like good old Oil of Ulay everyday beauty lotion.

One discovery I have made is facial oils. Decleour do some fab ones (the Neroli smells like heaven),but at the moment I am using an organic Rosehip oil on my skin once a day,& its really good.

I also love the Eau Roma water mist by Lush.

The Garnier under eye roll on is also fab,& my skin has improved enormously since using their BB cream rather than a foundation. My teenage girls use this too, & have noticed a real drop in the number of breakouts they get. we all love it :D

Just about every product I use is Pure Nuff Stuff. All their products are really simple, no long lists of ingredients (even some of the natural/organic products are guilty of this, I can't begin to imagine why any skincare product needs 20 different ingredients?) and a little goes a long way. Great for sensitive skin too as they do unfragranced versions of their products. They work too!

Used to use Elemis but then decided it was overpriced.

Have used Philosophy Purity Made Simple cleanser for a good few years now. The 32oz bottle lasts me over a year. Moisturiser, eye cream and serum are usually all from Aldi now. Think the most expensive thing from there is around the £4 mark.

I have problematic skin, in that I've always been prone to spots but now I'm also 40  So I have to keep my skin hydrated as well...not easy.

I'm always on the lookout for new products for my particular problem, but the current combo (which is pretty good) is the Murad anti-ageing oil control serum, eye cream and moisturiser, with Liz Earle cleanse & polish. I also use the Kiehls microdermabrasion scrub once a week, and their intensive hand cream.

NV Perricone is also pretty good but a lot of their face creams smell like fish so they can be a bit odd until you get used to them  Murad and Perricone are pretty pricey but worth it. I would love to use natural products like Lush and have tried over and over again with natural stuff, but unfortunately each time I've tried it doesn't cut it :(

Wow - there are so many products I've never even heard of! Liz Earle seems popular and I really like the idea of ingredients being as natural as possible.

It would be really interesting if you could see before and after photos of people's faces that have used only one brand of skin care for 20 odd years!

I guess it is a case of using products that make your skin feel good and then keeping your fingers crossed that the long term effects turn out to be good...

The best skin I have seen belongs to an aunt of mine, who looks about 30 years younger than she is. She always used to use a cream along the lines of the bog standard Nivea, (can't remember exactly what it was), but I think her skin is down to good genes - her mother and daughter also look ridiculously young for their ages. Sadly she's not a blood relative!

Liz Earle girl here, love the stuff. I have used it for at least 7 years or so. Have just tried the lipsticks....lovely! Anyone any recommendations for very very dry skin on feet.

Best foot cream I have ever found is L'occitane Shea butter foot cream. Comes in a metal squeezy tube. Put it on at night and then socks over the top = baby soft feet in the morning :D

My mum has wonderful skin, she is mid 70s and not really any wrinkles to speak of. She is not the slightest bit interested in skincare and swears her good skin is all down to not meddling with it  She uses soap and water and that's it. No cream, no nothing! Her skin IS amazing though, which is why I use products that are as simple as possible. If it works for her...

Loved Liz Earle to start with, then found it too drying for my mature skin....I chop and change all the time. At the moment I am using Emma Harding which has been lovely, but also after several months of use is still too drying for my skin...have to say so far Clarins has been my most reliable skin care...

This has inspired me to have a face product clear out. My dressing table is full of bits and pieces of stuff that I have left over from various sets I have had in the past - half a bottle of toner, dregs of moisturiser, face packs I never use.

I absolutely love Elemis and Decleor products but have finally come to the sad realisation that I can't justify the cost to myself any more - I can think of so much else to spend my money on. Also, they both have such individual fragrances that I feel you really must use all or nothing from their ranges.

So, I have ordered Liz Earle cleanser, toner and moisturiser which also came with a free exfoliant plus an oil to make a richer nighttime moisturiser. Not too expensive but feels a little bit indulgent! . I will stick to those and also suggest refills as presents for Christmas and Birthday- so much easier for my family if I am sticking to one brand.

I have been using Boots Protect and Perfect moisturisers which do the job but are not very inspiring!

One exception to the Liz Earle brand I will make is Clinique City Block spf 40 to use under my foundation in the summer - it's really hard to fund a decent face sunblock that can go under make up. Not sure if this counts as make up or skincare!
