Happiness is...

Recommended Posts

...the little things in life.

This morning I was listening to Pharrell’s song ‘Happy’ while doing the housework and it got me thinking about the post by The Dogmother of soldiers dancing in Afghanistan (liked this a lot BTW :D ) and it really put things into context for me. I suddenly became all philosophical  and started thinking about what makes me happy. Of course, we all want happy, healthy children/ families, job security etc. but I came to the conclusion that it really is the little things in life that make me truly happy.

Here are some of mine (and sorry if these sound a bit silly):

- Pottering around the garden all day, even if I’m not doing any particular job

- Finding that egg in the nest box (the novelty never wears off!)

- Seeing the first snowdrops coming through (Spring is on the way!)

- Sowing the first seeds of the year

- Waking up to sunshine (of course!)

You can probably gather I'm an outdoorsy type of girl! What are the little thinks in life that make you happy (or perhaps I am the only one?:lol: )

Wot no chooks Spacey?!!!

Watching the chooks

Losing weight and feeling fitter

Walking and seeing the wildlife

Watching clouds - well the nice fluffy ones that make funny shapes with a blue background and not this rubbish we've had for ages now.

Family appreciating you and thanking you for a nice dinner. That boy knows how to suck up to his mum!

And spending hours watching the bumblebees - or any bees and listening to them is so relaxing.

Paddling along the shoreline and looking for washed up shells.

Laughing with friends.

And getting the washing and ironing out of the way in one fair swoop!

... a good book (currently reading 'The Goldfinch' by Donna Tartt, it's brilliant)

... a cup of tea when you really need one

... a warm bath, possibly combined with one or both of the above

... lighting my woodburner and settling down on the sofa with a cat on my knee

... starting a new knitting (or sewing) project

...a dog walk in beautiful sunshine, or a frosty day (but not when pavements are slippery)

...seeing a glorious rainbow

...a cosy evening watching a film

...with a good glass of red wine

...and the candles lit

...starting a new crochet project

...line drying washing, especially sheets

...my family after dinner chats, when they are full of laughter

...watching my cats roll in a warm sunny spot

...when I think of phoning my hubby, and he does exactly the same at the same time :D

... picking the first bunch of sweet peas and inhaling deeply

listening to the birds singing in the evening

noticing that the girlies are going to bed a little bit later than before

smelling fresh washing as I bring it in from the garden

and knowing that I did the best I could for the little boy that I help at school everyday :D

and so many other things that would send you all to sleep.

Happiness is songs on radio that bring back memories ( def recommend Johnnie Walker radio 2 on Sunday ). Curling up in bed while OH makes breakfast. A nice carry out and a good murder/ mystery on telly. A walk at the beach. A night out with good friends. A hug from grand kids. The lovely welcome from dogs, even if you only went upstairs

A clear conscience.

Being able to help when someone really needed it.

A steaming bowl of home made soup and a dry change of clothes after a cold, wet walk.

Realising there's someone (in my case, my wife and kids) who actually thinks life is better with you around.

The welcome home after a business trip (probably not one that'll ring true for many of you, but those of you who have to travel regularly will REALLY know what I mean).

Ok, here goes...

- the fresh air (and look) of an early summer morning, May or June, it's the reason I failed French class.

- snuggling down into a freshly made bed

- cold side of a pillow

- a cup of tea when you REALLY need it (nice one Olly)

- mucking about in the garden with the chickens and cats

- treating a patient with really messed up feet and seeing the lovely result (never gets old)

:D:D:D

I'll have to think hard about this one, as life has been a bowl of crusty old toenails lately

Sunshine

Washing flapping on the line in said sunshine

Company of the chickens in the garden

When my daughter actually manages to put some of her dirty washing in the machine

Saturday evenings when The Boy turns up

Watching the hounds race with big, loony grins on their faces

Peace in the house on my own, with just the dogs snoring by the stove

Having the time for a bath rather than a shower

Helping the old lady down the road, who we look after

Seeing The Boy's parents holding hands after 60 years of marriage (his father is dying :( )

Great Thread!!!

Going back upstairs around 7.30pm, smelling the lavender oil from the boy's bath and knowing they are tucked up safe and sleepy, then going in to kiss them goodnight

A cold, crisp, bright winters morning when the frost has outlined all the branches/blades of grass

Singing along to Handel's Messiah whilst ironing (tho others in the family would dispute that!! )

Snuggling into bed with clean sheets that have been line dried

Getting the newspaper and finding some really uplifting and positive stories rather than the usual doom, gloom and despondency

Cooking for my family

Watching my boys laughing and playing together (blink and you miss it!!)

Beachcombing at Bigbury

Oooooh, putting that list together has really de stressed me!!!! 8)

It really is the simple things that mean the most.

A spontaneous cuddle from one of my grown up and nearly grown up children

The well earned cup of tea definitely hits the spot.

Special moments when the family are all relaxed and chatting and enjoying each other's company

Hearing my teens just chatting together as friends.

Finding that the children have done the washing up or other task without prompting.

Watching waves crashing onto a beach.

Sitting in the sun on the first warm day of the year

The first daffodil of spring

A wood burner on a cold day with two happy cats in front of it.

A simple meal that surprises with how tasty it is

Seeing others truly happy like a couple on their wedding day or a child at Christmas.

I could go on but will stop there I love the simple things in life :D

Walking the dog on a sunny day,

A purring cat curled up on my lap,

A slice of freshly baked, buttered bread,

Snuggling into freshly laundered and line dried bedding,

Candlelight and a log fire,

A good belly laugh with my best friend,

Gardening in the sunshine and listening to birdsong,

Enjoying the house after a good clean and tidy up- imagining that it will stay that way for a long time!

Writing a to-do list and getting all of it done,

A warm bath after a long day,

A handful of eggs in the nestbox,

Watching all the chooks sunning themselves on a warm day,

Sea air and sparkly waves,

A good thunderstorm after a long dry spell (remember those?!),

Cooking and sharing a tasty meal,

Reading a good book and not wanting to put it down,

Listening to a good play on the radio

Having time to do a bit of crochet or painting,

A piping hot cup of tea- when much needed, I agree!

The first new leaves of the spring,

Snowfall,

A clear sky in the morning when I open the curtains and the promise of a fine day!!
