I am about to run out of my usual moisturiser and find that its no longer available A trip to Boots left me reeling..what to use? There must be literally hundreds of options and I feel bamboozled! Peptides versus enzymes - - its a minefield! Can anyone recommend something, fairly easily available?

 

For info I am 49 with normal cheeks and an oily T zone and am starting to get slightly wrinkly around the eyes and mouth. I don't wear make up and need something that I can just slap on (poss a day and night cream tho that seems a faff )

 

Some of the creams are very expensive (£20 plus) so I don't want to make an expensive mistake! Any recommendations much appreciated. Thanks, in advance!

I swear by Clinique... It's pricey but it's used sparingly.

 

Ironically, I use the "age defying moisturiser" and have been ID'd for alcohol several times since using it!

Another vote for Clinique here, pricey but a little goes a loooooong way.

 

Try the Aldi range cheap and reasonably good stuff, if funds allow get a couple from the range to see which suit you best. They have the stuff with E10 and all that drivel.

 

ETA I mean Clarins not clinique, I always mix them up until I look at the pot in my bathroom

Clarins moisturiser and Boots Perfect and Protect are my faves.

Mine too. I love Clarins, it's the best moisturiser I've ever used, but if I can't afford it, I use Superdrug's own brand... it's pretty good

I agree Clarins or Clinique if you can afford it, Boots Perfect and Protect is good. At the cheaper end L'Oreal do a range for different ages - I sometimes use their Age Perfect range which I think is for the 50's as it is available in lots of supermarkets.

Huge pot of aqueous cream from Boots the Chemist . Costs a few quid. Not sure why, but now I'm in my 50s my skin doesn't seem as dry and I don't need to use it as much.

Soapdragaon, I use Boots Simply Sensitive moisturiser and buy when it's on offer, usually a buy one get one half price

Ok, so your age & skin type are very similar to mine & I am a total product junkie who tends to try every new product, so I hope I can advise you well

 

During the day I use a face wipe to remove my make up, then a toner such as the Decleor Rose toner to get the grime out. Then I use a very simple Garnier moisturiser - it is one for Dull skin, & has a nice light gel formula which I love. It is the only one I have tried which doesn't make my BB cream slide right off of my face again & I can really recommend it. Even better, it is on 2 for £6 in boots atm!

 

At night I use the same routine (except I may use a more astringent toner like Clinique number 2, if I have been wearing make up), but I tend to use a dedicated night serum instead of the moisturiser................ I have just discovered Liz Earle Superskin concentrate, which is AMAZING!

Not only does my skin feel so soft, but the smell of the stuff is very soothing & makes me sleep well too

It is an oily type of serum, but it doesn't make me greasy in the least & has really helped my skin to stop being too shiny looking during the day. Can't recommend it enough

 

So, Garnier moisturiser in a tube, for dull skin during the day

Liz Earle superskin concentrate at night

And my skin has never been better

I changed to using Aldi moisturiser a few years ago now when at the time a trial showed it to be as good as the mega expensive ones.

I did my own experiment and for 6 weeks used the cheap stuff on one side of my face and my usual more expensive one on the other. I managed to keep going for the 6 weeks, which was a bit of a faff Anyway at the end of the experiment I asked friends which side of my face looked better (giving no clues as to which side had had what). The verdict...... they both looked the same. I am in my fifties and people don't think I am the age I am so the cream must be working

I was in Aldi the other day and see they now have several different sorts but I just use the day cream.

Just looked up the Liz Earle concentrate its ££££££ . I had a similar oil I bought at the Royal Highland Show in quite a decent size bottle for £25 but I finished it just before Christmas and now I can't remember the make to order it online.

I've had a couple of goes at Aldi stuff but it brings me out in spots (at my age !).

It is expensive (thank goodness for my staff discount!), but it lasts an absolute age.

You only need a tiny bit,once a day...plus there is a smaller roller end bottle which is £20.

Just to add my two penny worth, I like natural products where possible and use Steam Cream at night (sold in John Lewis and a spin off from Lush) with Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair as an occasional treat (very ££££, but I really can see a difference). I have a small Liz Earle concentrate, but it did nothing for me.

My skin is quite oily naturally, so I only use a day cream when it's very dry and windy and use "Olay 7 signs of aging" (only 7 ??)

I really think this is one of those "everyone is different" subjects and would suggest getting some free samples if poss or if not at least a small bottle to try for a few days before spending too much. (Another Olay product made my whole face itchy and red, so even the same product line can be very different)

I went into Boots today and plumped for the night cream in the Protect and Perfect range (at least I think that's the one...it was the right age range for me anyway!) I had a voucher for £5.00 so that helped! Hoping for great things - but then I am an optimist!

 

Having found some day cream in my bedside drawers, I will use that up and poss get the matching day cream if the night time one works its magic!

I don't use anything. I don't use soap on my face. Sometimes use Johnson's baby shampoo. I cleanse everyday with Johnson's 3 in one. Sun cream is a must (not with our current weather). I'm 46 this year and don't really have any problems with my skin. My hands though are a nightmare, they look about 60!

Chickabee..have you tried L'Occitane hand creams? I had always considered them to pricey but we have an outlet store near us and they are also available at good prices on QVC. Me being me, I have picked up the odd tube on E bay too!

 

The shea butter one is particularly good and I am now a convert; I also use their liquid soap...bought in refill packs from QVC. I decided that the investment is worth it as hands do show your age very easily.

 

Has anyone else used any L'Occitane and, if so, what did you think of it?

I use them for work, as they are very fast absorbing, & I can't have greasy hands in my job.

It's is VERY hard on the hands, working in a chilly Supermarket.

The Crabtree & Evelyn ones are fantastic too.....I got a big box of them last year as an apology,after they were horribly rude to my daughter & myself in the Reading branch, & I am steadily working my way through it

I have taken to keeping a tube of L'Occitane hand cream by the sink and try and remember to put some on before washing up (wearing gloves!) the heat of the water makes the cream sink in much better...a bit like a beauty treatment whilst washing the dishes !

I like Occitane too,love Lavender hand wash and I use their Fabulous range of serum on my face under moisturiser.
