Just when we were enjoying the autumn colours, it looks like they may all be blown away . Yellow warnings for high winds and travel disruption tomorrow.

 

Bins already moved to the side path, where they can do no harm if they are blown over, garden furniture removed to the shed, pots clustered together at the end of the patio. Chickens will be shut in and their food picked up tonight. Last time we had strong winds here, the main disruption was caused by all the detritus in the roads that people hadn't secured before the storm arrived.

 

Everyone else ready, or is it just me being paranoid ?

I just hope my ES will be ok, he is camping in the Peak's as part of his silver D of E! I am trying not to worry too much but keep thinking of falling trees and his tent being blown away

I'm sure he will be fine and will just see it as part of the adventure . The incoming wind is being well-publicized round here (I'm on the edge of the High Peak), so he and his group will be moved to safety long before it hits land, if it really is going to get rowdy. Perhaps the assessors will incorporate forward planning for natural events into the award?

When I hear of hurricanes,high winds etc.do I worry about trees,bins and such like.No,now I have sleepless nights worrying if my WIR will become airborne,like the houses in the Wizard of Oz,and my poor chickens will be swirling around in their coop. So far they have stayed firmly put.

It was Mostin's low flying WIR's during the windy spells earlier in the year. But yes, usually weigh down and tie up things and watch everyone elses go flying. Sit back and enjoy the show. I still have to retrieve a few flowerpots that go walkabout even so.

I have read that it will affect Scotland mainly. And it still is a swirly whirly with an eye last time I looked earlier on the satellite.

Quite pleasant outside at the moment although fast clouds scudding across.

Think it's mainly to hit the West Coast of Scotland but I've bungeed the lids of my wheeliebins and put away any empty flowerpots in the garage, just in case.

I have got the Perspex panels up in the WIR as this will be the start of the winter to come, November soon !

I have also bought the cubes weather cover, hoping to keep more of the rain out this winter ,as it seems to drive in up the trays and on the right side of the roof. ( I always have a good re-tighten of all the screws etc...before the bad weather to keep the lid on straight to avoid water getting in , but the wind drives it in.).

I have tidied away around the garden, even taken bags of garden rubbish to the tip rather than wait for the bin men on Wednesday. ( as my corner is very windy and my neighbours won't like sharing the tree cuttings will they ? )

I don't know what more I can do except let it happen.

I am really glad I had my new windows and doors in the spring as my bedroom window last winter was held in place with duck tape and string. ( After one of the storms damaged it and it wouldn't seal properly when shut, it was a nightmare.)

It has been wet and breezy today.

I heard about this at the weekend, so I secured everything in the garden, and brought more wood in sacks down to beside the back door. I love a good storm

Right now, before I go to bed, I let the dogs out and it is definitely the calm before the storm, it is humid and eerily quiet, the clouds are rolling in and the air actually feels tense , like , just before an electrical storm, but this is going to bring more with it isn't it ?

Not too bad here overnight; blustery and damp this morning, but nothing drastic going on.

No too bad driving to work, though the highest winds haven't got here yet - give it another hour or so.

 

Main problems were the horrendous spray on the motorway, making it difficult to see who was in what lane and judge their speed, and wheelie bins in the road. I know it's bin day, but the wagon never gets to us before 11.00 and there's really no need to put bins out the night before with a storm forecast .

It was dry and a little blowy when I got up this morning but the wind has got up and it is now wet. We have had one very heavy shower but that has now passed and it is just rain

Hi dancing cloud, no I haven't heard from him, which is true to form, also I am going on the view no news is good news! Certainly windy here in Leices, but doesn't seem to damaging, hopefully he is ok, he is back tomorrow am. I am sure he will enjoy it, it is just me that worries!

Heard the rain in the night - clock was just before 2am. Heard the wind and the rain around 5am when hubby went to work. Went back to sleep easily both times. Got up at 6.30 and very dark, wet and windy but by the time I got the girls up just before 8 it was beginning to break up. We've had sun and big black clouds but not much rain apart from the odd spit - they are racing by fast though. I think I can declare it Winnie the Pooh blustery day weather.

It rained just before it got light here, then the sun came up and it was very bright. We had a heavy shower at about 8am, then more sunshine. It is clouding over again now and the wind seems to be coming and going at the moment

We had a lot of rain in the night and early morning. Sporadic downpours but the wind is pretty strong and gusty.

Very windy here,with light showers.I think OH picked the wrong day to move WIR and girls to new house?Ah well taken down,all he has to do is move coop and reassemble.Then catch girls and move them in.Hope they'll be ok tonight.

From the forecast, it looks like the worst will be over by 7.00pm or so - still going to be breezy and unsettled but no longer stormy .

Just had a hooley here for about 10 minutes, but it's back to normal now.

So far no damage yet. The bush in front of my kitchen window is trying hard to lift off though!

Coop and chooks are still safe and my pear tree is also still the right side up!

 

Preparations are made though by us Dutch. Harbours have been closed and dyke passages have been boarded up. Some low lying area's (yes I know... everything is low lying...) have been pumped dry, as a precaution. We like our dry feet!

Willow and I did our usual walk and lunchtime, there are fallen leaves EVERYWHERE but no damage that I could see, fortunately. Very blustery wind though, poor Willow's Rabbit Radar (aka her ears) caused some resistance in the wind though!!!!
