mullethunter
On Tuesday I will be adding 2 araucana bantam pullets to my existing flock of 4 bantams. I've wanted blue egg layers for ages so I'm very excited The new girls temporary new home is all ready and waiting... (Existing girls are not impressed with this weather so have gone to bed early!) chooksRCute
Oo the nail biting anticipation, can we have some pics Mullethunter? I'm curious about this breed myself
mullethunter
Here they are They don't have names yet. The brown one is very chatty and the friendliest. The black one is boss. Only one photo so far because I didn't want to stress them out too much. When I went out just now the black one had gone to bed in the house, and the brown one was on the perch. I put her in the house too and have shut them in for the night. Can't wait till morning. Think I might be late for work!

Groovychook
Oh my word, they're gorgeous! The black one is a little mini version of my Lola and the brown one is so pretty too. Want!!
mullethunter
They are really little and cute. Especially the brown one. He had quite a lot there to choose from Groovychook

Luvachicken
He had quite a lot there to choose from Groovychook That's very tempting for us all. Does he have any pekins ? I could just do with a weekend away in Cornwall They do look very dinky Can't wait to see more photos when they have settled more.
mullethunter
I'm afraid he doesn't have any Pekins Luvachicken After being in the run on their own for 3 nights and days, I free ranged the new girls with my four after work yesterday and during the day today, then tonight the newbies took themselves to bed in the Cube with the other four!! There was a bit of moaning and squawking but nothing too bad, and I've just looked in to see the new girls are snuggled together on the roosting bars (they obviously weren't permitted to squash onto the perch). Fingers crossed now that there won't be too much trouble in the morning!

Groovychook
How is the new girl settling in? Hope it's going well
mullethunter
Thanks for asking - she's doing really well The new girls are now Barbara (red-brown) and Margot (black)! I put Barbara back in the Go run with Margot for 48 hours when Margot arrived, rather than move Margot straight in with everyone else. Barbara was furious about that and spent the whole time running up and down the run trying to get out! But then on the second night I let them out at bedtime and they both went straight into the Cube! They aren't exactly integrated into the flock and both go flapping and squawking off at a look from Penny, but they're all living together reasonably harmoniously in the WIR which is a real result I should have called Barbara 'pig chicken' - she follows me (or OH) everywhere after treats, making her little clucking noise Margot is much more timid, but I think she would take mealworms from me if the others ever allowed her the time to work up the courage! Anyway - sorry - a bit of an essay but all is well! And I've heard from the breeder that the chook I took back seems to be doing OK too so win win
