Minnie&Moose
Our chickens and cats, along with us, are moving out - to a house with a field All 7 chickens are currently on holiday at a local 'chicken holiday resort', cats are off this morning to the cattery for a few days, and on Thursday we and all our stuff follow them - up to north Oxfordshire. It does mean a bit of a painful commute to work and school but - the lure of enough space for more PP , possibly some and , and eventually perhaps even a few sheep was just too much! It's all quite exciting but a bit daunting as well! Let's hope the chickens enjoy their new life as country girls.
Valkyrie
Congratulations! We are hoping to do the same next year - putting the house on the market then. Just making it nice here at the moment (to enjoy before we do!). Did you find chickens were difficult with regard to people viewing - in that I mean did they turn their noses up at keeping chooks, or was it more heyyy lifestyle we can do it too type of thing? Daphne
Congratulations, how exciting for you all I found that showing off the chooks was brilliant when trying to let the house, even tho the birds weren't staying. I think showing off a possible lifestyle doesn't hurt
Minnie&Moose
To be honest I've no idea whether the chickens helped or not. The estate agent did all the 'showing around' so I never heard anything about them, other than a question about their names! I did make sure that the houses and pens were very clean, tarps all sparkling, etc - I didn't want anyone to think they might smell! Good luck with your house selling and moving Valkyrie. Valkyrie
Thanks - OH wants the girls to be somewhere else! I don't want to uproot old ladies! But I'd definitely want the estate agent to do the showing around.
Luvachicken
How exciting for you all. I'm sure all your animals will be really happy in their new homes. Can you put pictures of your new garden when you have time ? I love seeing big gardens
Minnie&Moose
Hi Luvachicken - I'll try to post pictures once we get there and I've worked out how to put things up without photobucket!
Cat tails
If you haven't found a replacement yet for Photobucket, ImgBB is very good and easy.
The Dogmother
That's brilliant news - you must be coming up near me then....
Minnie&Moose
We're all moved in! Chickens are currently living it up in a large stable because I haven't had time to erect the Cube and run, and haven't found all the bits for the electric fence (I packed everything away, carefully labelled but I still can't find anything). No pictures yet - but hopefully next weekend once I've found the battery charger for the camera I think we're west of you Dogmother - just north of Chipping Norton. The chickens had a lovely time at Cotswold Chickens but are now back in 'chicken boot camp' with me! The countryside looks amazing at the moment with all the beech and silver birch trees in their autumn colour - the drive from Chipping Norton to Kineton to pick up the chickens was stunning! Makes the 'lovely' commute back into Oxford worthwhile.
Luvachicken
Yay, congratulations on a successful move. The countryside sounds beautiful

Valkyrie
Welcome home . . . ish - new home! At least you have a nice place to put them if Defra dishes out the same rules as last year. I'm sure the girls are having a whale of a time exploring their "new" but temporary house. Hope you find everything eventually. As for me - decorated bathroom, shower curtains put in spare room. Shower curtains now back up minus ring (the curtains were clean because the little darlings had moved out and just draped over the suitcases with rings still attached) - a search has not been helpful apart from finding something else I'd lost - and should have been in my Crows Nest quilt room! Since then OH has been emptying boxes of storage stuff to either throw, give to the family or charity and even then there was nothing to be found. I went in there - didn't find the missing ring (maybe a Hobbit has it somewhere) but I did find a boxed set of shower rings - not the same size, but at least I can replace the lot. And then the ring will turn up. I am now dreading trying to find something when we do move seeing as we can't find silly little things now! So I sure hope you manage to unearth those things sooner rather than later!
Minnie&Moose
Sounds like you've been busy Valkyrie! Good luck with it all - I'm now at the stage of 'shoot me if I ever suggest moving house again'! But the move itself is great, and I'm loving the quietness and change of scenery (mooing cows is quiet in my book). Let the chickens out into the paddock for the first time today. Some ventured out briefly but then they all scuttled back into the safety of their stable! Obviously not feeling very intrepid. Meanwhile the 2 cats, who are confined to the house for another 3 weeks or so, are glued to the windows and doors, raring to go and explore! Have now found the battery charger and camera battery is currently charging - so hopefully some pictures of hens enjoying space and sunshine will be along soon, and some pictures of the garden for luvachicken
Luvachicken
It all sounds perfect I bet the cats are really excited about their time to explore once they get out. Might see if I can find a bit of cows and sheep to listen to so I can imagine myself in similar surroundings
The Dogmother
Sounds divine I'm often over that way walking the hounds, so shout if you fancy meeting up for a walk.
soapdragon
Glad you are safely in MM; found the bits for the fence yet There seem to be a fair few of us in Oxfordshire (I'm a bit further south; 15 mins or so off the Oxford services junction) perhaps an Oxford meet up might be on the cards some time in January
Valkyrie
Yay you found some bits! Still no shower ring! We get cows mooing around here so I love the sounds - until that goes under concrete too. Although a fox last night was a bit disturbing! And it was earlier in the day - but the girls had already gone to bed. Phew! Enjoy the countryside sounds - I find them relaxing - unless the blooming tawny goes TWIT outside the window! Then again it always makes me smile - I'm sure it'll be the same for you. All the lucky peeps already living that life!
