xScrunchee
I wish that I remembered everything I had inside my purse because yesterday, while in Asdas, someone took it from my bag!!! I have remembered to cancel my bank card, library cards etc but for the life of me I cannot seem to remember everything I had in it!! It was my own fault that it got taken really. I should have been more aware! My bag was hanging on the handles of the buggy and Liam (2 years old) was walking about and causing mischief so I was keeping a constant eye on him and obviously looked away from the buggy long enough for someone to grab my purse!!!!!!! I feel really annoyed at myself-I can't belive I was so stupid! Anyway, I just wish I knew what I had in the thing apart from money (only £30 or so), bank card, library cards, NI card, donor card. I know that I had more in it than that though!! Life is full of lessons and I just had a big one I guess!
Egluntyne
What rotten luck. I hope they catch the thief. Have you asked at the store about CCTV?
xScrunchee
To be honest I don't think there is any point in me making a big fuss. It happens too often for anyone to be surprised anymore!! The staff in Asdas were not too bothered. The man asked if I wanted the police phoned but also said that the chances of them catching the theif were pretty remote!! They didn't make an announcement over the tannoy to alert other shoppers that there was a thief about, they didn't offer to do anything really. They did suggest that I searched through the bins outside in case the purse was discarded after the money was taken and they also suggested that we looked under all of the shelves in case the thief threw it on the floor after taking the money out but that was all. I left my name and number there so that if it is found they can contact me but I think that's pretty unlikely! I guess this is just the world we live in and it's my own fault!! Lesley
What a horrible thing to happen - I can't beleive that Asda were so unforthcoming about it all and told you to look yourself
lisa33
How awful. You should tell the police though. My partner's nan had her purse stolen in Asda's in Stevenage. The purse was found two days later in a bin in the town with the money gone but everything else still in there.
Jules.
That's horrible it it had been me I would have burst into tears.... I often leave my bag hanging on the buggy handles, too. I think you need to have a word with Asda's head office about the way you have been treated, after all you have had a nasty experience whilst shopping with them. Cinnamon
Rotten luck. I had my handbag stolen once, from where I was working. It turned up 12 miles away stuffed behind some bins behind a pub - a nice person saw my details & phoned me. All the money was gone of course,& horribly my photos were ripped & scribbled on It make you feel horrible, doesn't it? It may be covered by your household insurance though - my bag was

BeckyBoo
Thats really rotten luck but I agree you should tell the police, if someone uses your cards (which would already have happened by now) the card companies will need a crime number in any case. Plus purses etc do get handed in, money and cards gone obviously but they might leave any Nectar cards, photos, receipts all the other bits and pieces we collect. Sorry you had to go through that. Cate in NZ
Sorry to hear what happened Jay, but I'd agree with the others, informing the Police can't hurt and you never know you might just get it back, minus any valuable contents I'm sure. Asda sounded spectacularly unhelpful, great customer service there then
chocchick
I'm sorry. It's not really your fault though, the thief is the one in the wrong. Asda sounded pretty useless, which is not great when you're upset at just having lost a purse.
bronze
You should let the police know anyway in case someone tries to use the info in it for identity theft
Guest
The attitude of Asda is pretty shocking, and I think you need to contact their customer services today, and let them know how you were treated. While they probably won't have CCTV that can help (you'd be amazed just how little is covered by CCTV in a supermarket.....), they should have contacted the police for you, and also alerted the carpark staff to check for the purse in the carpark, and the cleaning staff to check the toilets. They should have taken your name and address, in case it turned up in a couple of days time in a bucket. They should have also put a customer announcement over the tannoy, warning other customers that their was pickpockets operating instore. It's definately worth you telling the police today, as sometimes people find stolen purses discarded in the street, and will hand them in, and you'll find that, if this purse is found, the only thing missing will be the cash. Anything else (photos, receipts etc) will still be there, I would imagine. I had my handbag stolen from my place of work once, and I was devestated, as it had a watch in it that my brother had given me for my 18th birthday - nothing particularly fancy, but it had HUGE sentimental value, but when my bag was handed into the police (minus cash from my purse), the watch was still there. chickencam
Keep your chin up and don't let them get away with do what you can you never know. I had my purse stolen on a packed Newcastle metro train when I was 18. I had gone for an interview at Newcastle poly and it had my return rail ticket to North Wales where I lived at the time. Fortunately it only had about £5 cash in it but even that was a lot of money to me. The worst part was that it had things like a few coins from a trip to Germany when I was 12 and odd ticket stubs and other souvenirs of my life so far. I was so angry and it was the first and only time I saw my now husband look murderous. The British transport police on the station were unsypathetic and useless but I guess they see this all the time. Still Asda should have cctv we hate our local Asda and call it Asbo
Mel (& Paul)
oh I am sorry Jay. What a rotten rotten thing to happen to you.
Olly
so sorry to hear this Jay, you haven't had a good year have you ... do tell the police, (a) in case it turns up (b) so they get a record in case you want to make an insurance claim © just in case there are any identity theft issues. I hope you didn't have your driving licence in the purse. I did when mine was stolen, and the thief proceeded to rip off about £3,000 of credit agreements, mobile phone contracts etc. We all pay for this in the end. If it's anything like my purse, it has Nectar and Boots cards, loyalty cards for other stores, receipts, bits of paper with phone-numbers on, photos, in fact anything that is credit-card sized! I do hope it turns up, even though the money will undoubtedly be gone.
Popcorn
Isn't it awful that most of us have been through something similar during our lifetime? My story is no different to most of you, handbag stolen from work, I informed the Police thinking nothing would happen, but I did get my bag back with everything still in it except mobile and purse. It's just the worst feeling in the world, and makes you feel just rotten and helpless. Shona has really covered everything I would have said too. You MUST write to Asda HO - the response from them was disgusting and if you make a complaint you may save somebody else having to go through the same thing. Informing the Police might get you your purse back. It's worth a phonecall.
chocchick
On a more positive note, I lost a bag, and it was handed in minus money at a nearby pub. OH must have kicked it out of the car when he got out. It had my address in it, which I never keep there, and keys. We changed the locks just in case. Its such a shame when you come up against this sort of attitude and it must be really encouraging for the thieves to know that "Ooops, word censored!"ody can be bothered to try and catch/stop them. Asda should also consider that the person who stole your purse will probably steal their shopping as well.
theherd123
Oh im so sorry to hear you have had your purse stolen - how awful for you Things like this make you feel so violated as someone was obviously watching and waiting for the right moment I do hope you feel better soon
xScrunchee
I have e-mailed Asda's customer services to let them know how unhelpful and useless their staff were, but surprise surprise-they haven't replied yet!! I think I have managed to remember the majority of what was in the purse, it's the inconvenience of it all more than the money isn't it? Luckily I only had a pic of my cats in there, some receipts, donor card, NI card, library cards, cash point card (luckily it's not a credit/debit card) and other bits and bobs which are really not that important-so it could have been worse. I will definitely keep a closer eye on my bag in the future though. What a strange year so far but-what doesn't kill us makes us stronger I guess!! Charlottechicken
So sorry to read this I am annoyed about the attitudes you encountered, don't they realise if we stamped a little harder on the offenders of these so called petty crimes, maybe there would be a bit less crime in general Hope you are feeling OK now, any crime can have a devastating effect. How people can think they can help themselves to other folks possessions Bring back the stocks!
Beauty-Box
I'm so sorry to read about your purse being stolen. I can't believe how unhelpful ASDA has been! Try and stay positive if you can and don't blame yourself. The only people to blame are the scum that took your belongings when you were distracted!
