I still want to ask him for hatching eggs but am completely unsure which to go for. Did you remember what the 'country' ones were called. Theyre very cute. Lesley Posted February 14, 2008 Author Share Posted February 14, 2008 They are from Poulet over on River Cottage forum - delivered to Jude at Cotswold Chickens who kindly looked after them until we could get over to collect them. Poulet deals in large quantities but will deliver smaller amounts if you live on the route any of his drivers have to take. He was making a delivery of 100 to Jude and it was easier to go over there than arrange to meet the driver at Warwick Services on the M40 We buy our POL's from Jude www.cotswoldchickens.co.uk - she has some day olds for sale if anyone in the area wants to raise a few? We were supposed to have 10 Master Gris (see it on the Meadowsweet site) and 10 Coloryield which are brown. When we got to Jude's all 120 chicks were in her brooder and we had to pick our 20 out from them She said ....... yellow with brown splodges are Master Gris and yellow ones are 'the others'............ ..... but, it turned out that hers were supposed to be white and we'd chosen brown birds I've spoken to Poulet this morning - the Master Gris weren't ready so we've got 10 brown and 10 white.........perhaps We've got 9 yellow with brown splodges, 9 fluffy yellow ones and 2 yellow with spots Poulet had packaged ours separately but that info. was obviously lost somewhere along the line. We're going to try the Master Gris early in April, when this current batch are out of the brooder. Aunty e Posted February 14, 2008 Share Posted February 14, 2008 OH has started making pathetic whiny 'can we hatch some chicks this year' noises. We didn't have any successful hatches last year, as we kept trying to use the silky, who was a rotten mother. Still, she's gone to the big coop in the sky, and we have two pretty large pekins we reckon would make lovely mothers. If only they'd go broody. Don't have space for a set up like yours, though it looks amazing! We're stuck with however many eggs we can get under a pekin. Not sure where to get meat bird hatching eggs from though, as we'd always tried to hatch dual-purpose before - keep the girls, eat the boys. We're at the limit for girls now, so we're don't want to hatch any egg layers really, as I think it would make it harder to despatch them if they looked like the hybrids and laid eggs. I'm getting mine from him. 35p each. overnight courier. £6.50 up to 5kgs. Ask Poulet, or look at www.hubbardbreeders.com She won't have them for long though as she'd already got buyers....... We'll grow ours for at least 12 weeks - 84 days.
