Sarah B Posted March 10, 2008 Share Posted March 10, 2008 I live 7 miles from Portsmouth in Waterlooville and the Independant online UK said today that Waterlooville and Havant were some of the worst affected areas in Hants. It was awful. I was awake all night as we are closely surrounded by trees as we side to the woods and have big trees in the garden. Chooks were in the eglu last night but out in their run today, and as I had to work and it was still horrendous and I have a poorly one it was a real worry. We're OK :D (thank you for asking) ....no damage to the house (although 3 of my neigbours have lost a lot of roof tiles......must just be the angle of the houses ....) only some damage to bits and bobs in the garden and the shed roof - will be out there later with my trusty roll of roofing felt and nail gun Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I was out all day yesterday, so the girls had to fend for themselves (I did check on them before locking them in the eglu and they seemed OK). I will spend some time with them today to make up for it. I was due to pick my Mum up today from Lincolnshire, for a visit, but as the windspeed is 39mph (gusting to 52mph), we're leaving it until tomorrow. Hopefully things will have calmed down by then. craftyhunnypie Posted March 12, 2008 Share Posted March 12, 2008 Last night at 11.30pm..it was like a Cyclone / twister here. It went mad. The bin blew over first. Then the trees were bending in half & the noise! I was ready for bringing the chooks inside! But their houses were all ok & they were quiet & tucked up in their nests! The roofing felt which hubby had only re done the other day - had blown off one of the sheds again. So he went out in all that weather to hammer it back on & put some wooden batons across it (hammered those down too). But I was worried the wind would get under his jacket & carry him off. But then it all went calm & dead still. Really wiered! about an hour later, it came again..it was like we had been in the eye of the storm at one point. The little gazebo that used to cover the little chooks took off, but got lodged down the side of the house, otherwise it could have landed on the cars! Just been egg collecting & the garden is unbelievable. Stuff everywhere..rubbish from other people all over the place. The poor cat, won't go out for a wee wee, so I think we will have to put a litter tray down for her today..she's 11! The chickens are enjoying wind in their bloomers, but when a real big gust comes, they run in their houses. Horrid weather, just hope everyone is ok. It seems to have got progressively worse, and my walk to school and then on to work was hard work. There were huge black and mustard clouds and it was hard to stand up, we thought we would get soaked. We even took our oldest car because the school is surrounded by big trees but by the time we came out it was much calmer and hadn't actually rained much it must have just skirted past us.
