Mollystar
My second post & it's very sad one for me this moning One of my young chickens has been poorly for a week or soo, not ill as such but I knew something was not 100%, anyway I tried giving her extra attention & checked her over but nothing obvious, thin but not overly. Two days ago I noticed she was not eating & puffing her front feathers up. I added some spice to the growers & tried her with grated cheese, corn etc even made her weetabix with warm milk The other chickens are 100% fine. Now everyone will be shouting VETS but I live on a farm with a born & bread farmer who would make me sleep in the yard if I mentioned taking a chicken to the vets I got home yesterday & as I was feeding her she fell over, she had lost more weight but was fluffing up to compensate, I lifted her out & placed her in a box in the hall with any treat I could think of & water. I was up in the night checking on her & this morning she is no better, worse if anything. When I left the house my BF said we should give her until lunch to perk up if not she should'nt suffer no more. Please perk up

Egluntyne
Difficult for you but sometimes a pragmatic approach is sensible. At least she is not longer suffering.

helenmb
Hi Mollystar - just read your post - so sorry about your news . The same thing happened to one of my hens a few weeks ago and my DH also did the deed as it was night-time and too late to whisk her to the vets. I know you have done the right thing but its always a terrible decision. Helen

Helen&Lee
So sorry to hear about your chook. It must be of some comfort that you have someone who can 'do the deed' when needed to, I wish I knew someone like that to save my chooks the stress of a journey to the vets.
