Every school in Surrey is shut! I  've got to try and get in to work, but only if my Mum can get to me - I did tell her not to bother but she's determined so I suppose I'd better make an effort if she gets here. Work said, "loads of roads are impassable, try if you want but give us a ring later when you can't get in!" My dog was terrified, but she overcame it and ran across the green with her nose down so her whole face was covered, the buff orp is too frightened to come down the cube ladder, there's a big queue of them at the top of the ladder, not even warm pasta, mash potatoes and raisins tempted them. The chicks Eglu was COMPLETELY buried! They look less than impressed!

Happy snowballing everyone!

6 inches of snow and counting.....

YS's school is closed, ES been told not to bother trying to get to Essex but hubby is going to try to get to work later just to pick up his lap top and work.

The girls were not impressed when I let them into the run :?

Poor Cookie ends up with such a lot of balls of ice in her fur on her legs. We've just had to shower her legs off. Wondering if I can rig something up for her with plastic bags on each leg

:( friend just rang to say she got on the tube at 7.00, by 8.00 she had only got two stops down the line and the train terminated, so she turned round and came home. She can log on and work from home however. (For anyone wondering, the Tube runs above ground out here, it doesn't go underground until it's much closer to London!)

I have texted my line manager for advice - given that it's still snowing, I am worried that I might get to work and then find the line is suspended - but he hasn't come back yet. I am going to venture up to the station so I can say I tried, (and I do need to go to Waitrose for some bread, so it won't be a wasted journey! )

Really hoping it's going to be impossible to get in, but I just have this image of everyone else battling in from much further away, and mine being the only empty desk!

DD's school is closed, they sent a text round earlier - glad they are in the 21st century at least! Mind you it did come in about the time she should have left.....no excuse really as the headmaster lives on site :?

Dogs are going nuts, our beautiful virginal snow looks like it's been ploughed  , chooks are less than impressed, they fell helterskelter out of the eglu door to start with & stopped rather abruptly when they saw the snow at the end of the run. When I opened their gate to let them FR, Snowdrop stepped out on to the fox skirt, turned round & went back in! They are now tootling around fairly happily & trying to avoid the dog bombs which keep flying past  !

The Orpies haven't come out yet, I've swept their ladder and their run too, so they won't get too snowy, but they are refusing to come out... I'll have to go & evict them soon - their mash will definitely be cold  Shall I be a kind Mummy & take some more hot out & mix it in for them

The batties are simply bewildered  , they are so unused to everything, that snow is just something else to add to their befuddlement!

DD has just come in from outside with that blindingly obvious statement "it's cold out there!!":roll: Bless her!

Happy days!

I can't believe Es school is open. It is still snowing and just about every state school in the area, if not Essex, is shut but apparently independently schooled children can still get in. I can't believe there'll be many children turning up because they come from quite a distance.

The chooks run has a dusting of drift snow and I opened the door to the run but given it's 5 inches deep outside they haven't ventured out. I wanted to put food out for the birds but if I put it on the ground it'll be hidden by the snow. I might stick a garden chair out with some on later. If they're hungry enough they'll be brave.

Have just found out that both runways at Heathrow are closed and we will be spending another night here. I have nothing we me :( Off out in a bit tobuy some pants :lol:

Got about 2 inches here. All my sibling schools are open (they go to 3 different ones). Only one local primary school is shut which is higher up in the hills. My brother is off to Sheffield with his school though so its going to take them ages to get there with the snow. Maybe they will cancel it.My dad said the roads are really slippy so mum has walked to work and i'm staying at home instead of going to volunteer at Oxfam.

Our dog went crazy in the snow when i let her off when i was walking back from taking my little sister to school.

I can't remember ever staying off school because of the snow. I remember getting a themometer to see how cold it was in the classrooms as there were rumours that if it went too cold they had to send us home!

Ordinarily the prospect of having to spend a night in Paris would have some appeal.

If you can't find any pants...just turn the ones you are wearing inside out!

 Did I say that or just think it?

Snowing really heavily here. We never got sent home from school because of snow either, Sunshine. You sat in the classroom, wearing your duffle coat!

The coal fired boiler stoked by Mr Fennessy wasn't a wimp and never conked out.
