TOMWARDFARM
Ok, now I have got loads of eggs and can only eat so many so going to put a sign up outside my house and sell them. Any suggestions how much?
dame egna
I sell mine for £1 for 6, although when they get bigger (they are fairly small at the moment) I might put it up to £1.20 I just wanted to add that I also give people the option of buying either 6, 10 or 12. I also stick in a double yolker when I get them, and they do also get green eggs which is novel for most people. When I get the blue ones, I think it will encourage even more people to buy them (then again, I only just have enough for myself these days since putting my sign down the road!! ) Edited June 2, 2009 by Guest
Ygerna
I sell mine for £1.50 per half dozen. I find that people are happy to pay that because they know how happy the girls are. I actually have very few spare eggs for our own use now
girlsmum
I also sell mine for a £1 per dozen. People are more than happy to pay that. Girlsmum
dancing cloud
Mine sell at work for £1 for 6 and all the proceeds go to the BHWT to help them carry on the good work . If I'm not organised enough to put some aside, I often don't have any left for me !
Saronne
I sell mine for 1.25 for 6, and 2.50 per dozen. People seem happy with the price.
TOMWARDFARM
I think 1.20 sounds reasonable coz the boxes arent cheap either are they
dame egna
I think 1.20 sounds reasonable coz the boxes arent cheap either are they I bought loads of boxes off ebay, and not inc the postage I paid, they work out to be 11p each edited as i had worked it out wrong lol Edited June 2, 2009 by Guest
dancing cloud
My lot bring their egg boxes back and I've put their names on them, so the boxes can just be put in the queue in the order received . Some people also brought me boxes, so I have few spares for those that have lost/destroyed their box or for new customers - so far the system's working well
TOMWARDFARM
that'll do!! I paid 19p each last time
fluffyknickers
Girlsmum - assume you mean for half a dozen, if not you are selling yourself short! I tend to give mine away as not good at selling stuff to friends and work with a loads of blokes who dont want them and hubby cant take them to his work. Although if I did I would ask for a £1 for four and recently my mums friend made me take a pound for the ones I gave her. x
Guest
Today my neighbour wanted to give me £1 for half dozen but I didnt take it as they are really nice neighbours and the eggs were not huge However I think that is a bargain and perhaps I am silly not to take it! Just neighbourly suppose! I do like to see the little tables outside peoples homes with honey and goodies plants etc & have stopped before to buy indie
rabbitfluff
I charge £1 for 6 at work but wish I'd started out charging more. Not for any extra cash as such, but a couple of people who have them off me at work have them just because they're cheap eggs (cheaper than the supermarket at least), and really don't care that they're from happy, well cared for hens. If I'd charged a premium I'd maybe only get the people that mattered to. That probably sounds daft? But we go to all the effort to look after our girls, I kind of want the eggs to be appreciated! That said, they'd probably be buying battery eggs if not, so...
BocBoc
I agree - £1 for half a dozen sounds perfect. That is what intend to sell our spares for....when I can actually bring myself to charge for them and stop giving them away
Poached
i sell mine to neighbours for £1 for 4 and £1.50 for 6 josh
jackiepoppies
You wouldn't be able to put yours on a little table outside your house would you Tom You'd probably lose your table as well I think 25p per egg would be a good price and I like the idea of named egg boxes for regular customers. Good luck. Jx
TOMWARDFARM
Jackiepoopies I think you are being rather presumptious as to where I live and you may be stereotyping Coventry as a whole! My wife and I don't wish to sell them from my house and will just sell them to friends and neighbours etc. Regards Tom
jackiepoppies
My apologies if you assumed I was denigrating only Coventry. Unfortunately most big cities do not have the sense of community and trustworthiness that I knew many moons ago It is a sad fact of life in this day and age, distrust is more prevalent than trust I agree with Indie999 that it is really nice to be able to put money in a tin for goods. We had this in Worcs. for asparagus, but unfortunately you very rarely see it now. Jx
Jennyhenny
I agree - £1 for half a dozen sounds perfect. Guest
I agree - £1 for half a dozen sounds perfect. That is what intend to sell our spares for....when I can actually bring myself to charge for them and stop giving them away I think thats my problem too I would like to sell them (nice neighbours etc)..in fact a chicken keeper told me I must sell them as otherwise I devalue the whole chicken freedom etc idea! The only reason I would charge a £1 per half dozen is my eggs are not that big...but I would definitely emphasise that the shop eggs are not fresh at all, I cant believe how the whites on my own eggs are so solid looking....everyone likes them....I think if any of my other neighbours want a few I will charge £1 from now on.... If I get bigger eggs then I would charge more....my chicken eggs are a lot more popular than the duck eggs that I use to have and give away. Good luck entrepreneurs(cant spell)

Omletina Kyckling
I charge £1.50 per half dozen. I used to charge £1 but when I joined the WI, the ladies were falling over themselves for the eggs and said they thought I should charge them more as the eggs are so good (plus they love the different colours and sizes!) so I now charge £1.50. I recycle egg boxes, and have put photos of all the girls on the boxes, so most people bring them back to me
shibby69
Mine are £1.25 for 6, or £1 for 6 if they bring the box back
