[ I would agree that he was certainly weird in his adult life, but I could never agree with you on the 'talentless' bit. The man's singing and dancing skills were amazing. 8)

I agree Saronne. I wanted to say something earlier, but thought I'd best keep :silenced:

I don't get the outpouring of grief but then I don't get why we're supposed to be in awe over celebrities either.

I do think he was very talented albeit a flawed individual - funny how they often go together :?

Sad he was so uncomfortable in his own skin. It's easy to forget how big an issue race (and racism) was then and how weird it must have been to be black and so famous and celebrated. When you throw the immense pressure at a young age and the bullying from his father into the mix it isn't surprising he came out flawed.

I hope his kids get some normality but the whole family is dysfunctional so I suspect they won't.

I have to confess I was never a huge Michael Jackson Fan....I do remember the original Jackson 5 but just didn't really like "tamla motown". I think this really is a tragic story of what too much money and too little self esteem can do for a person...and no doubt it does go back to his childhood....

Sad thing too is I am not convinced that his music will really survive forever....Lennon and McCartney he is not (ok..imo only) ...but really he hasn't done anything much that has left any impression since Thriller...and that was 25 years ago ( yes it really was!) He was getting his ten minutes of fame here and there with the bizarre stories and court cases...but will the world remember him in 25 more years? Unfortunately if it does it won't be for his musical talent which is forever tainted now by the other stuff I fear.

hey

Wether anyone liked his music or not he was part of a generation of artist who not only helped push their music forward and who also made it to the top based on merit not on looks and who weren't built by a recording company. Whether you liked him or not i bet there is not one person here who if you played Billy Gene or thriller or some of his other hits would not imedatly know what it was and who sang it. He was a musical icon wether you belive he was talented or somone who got lucky.

I hope that with his death he and his family get more peace and respect than they ever got when he was alive whether that is his fault or not.

I grew up with his music, he was an amazing artist. It's so sad his latter part of his life was so troubled. I don't think he really had much of a childhood either. :(

Such a young age and awful for his young children. RIP Michael.

can't really add to that. I was shocked and saddened when I found out he'd died. We were on our way back from our hols and I was listening to 'Heal the world' (part of a radio tribute) and I thought "no-one who writes words like that can have a bad heart".

RIP Michael.

I agree. I was watching the "Man in the mirror" video the other day, the words and video are quite moving especially now.

I never believed all that stuff surrounding his trial, just greedy people trying to cash in! I'm sure all the stress around that must have contributed to his poor health. It's so sad, so, so sad.

I agree with you Poet. It has been reported that he started taking the synthetic morphine (now alleged to have killed him) during the trial.

He always seemed to me like an anorexic, wanting to stop his body from growing, unusual in a man but not unheard of, and coupled with the alleged abuse as a child, not wanting to grow up and remain naive is I suppose, understandable.

Funny how the first trial was dropped when millions of dollars were waved under the father's nose :? If my child was abused, it wouldn't be money I was after.

I think Michael, once he had earned enough money to live his own life, reverted to childhood, quite literally. He never had a childhood after all. It would also explain his spending habits as most kids with money spend it straight away and if you are Michael Jackson, who's going to say no to you. For what it's worth, i would have let DD stay with him at Neverland, i imagine it would have been the treat of a lifetime. If he had children sleeping in the same bed as him it's because Michael was a child himself and when children have sleepovers they all pile into the same bed. We judge him as an adult but i'm not sure he ever was. His children were probably more his companions than his kids.

I think it's a shame that the media that poured scorn all over him for much of his life are suddenly back in love with him again. It's a shame that they forgot his contribution to the music world when he was alive, who knows, maybe he wouldn't have had all the problems he had if the media hadn't tormented him and dogged his every step.

I've been listening to his music al weekend on the radio and it's been a real pleasure.

And i like "Ben" 8)

Following consideration by the moderating team, a couple of posts which focussed in detail on allegations about MJ ‘s life off stage have been removed, as they were unsuitable for a family forum.

Could we ask for your co-operation in keeping the thread suitable for younger Omleteers to read?

Many thanks.

I found it all a bit too much, sorry. Not emotionally but too much of the schmaltz for me. It's the first time I've actually seen MJ's children, lovely kids they are too and I wish them a normal and happy life. Shame his eldest couldn't get rid of the gum though, same could be said for his grandfather Joe.

I hope the media will leave him alone now and let him rest in peace.
