Saronne
Creamy broccoli macaroni cheese with leftover bits of cheese from Christmas, including Stilton. It was yummy.
chickencam
I love macaroni cheese, I quite often put some cauliflower in it, but haven't tried broccoli. We had a lovely toad in the hole tonight, I know that this will not win me friends at this time of year, but we have an egg glut, so every meal has to include them in some form. bluekarin
When I make cauliflower cheese, I usually add broccoli as my DS doesn't like cauli but will tolerate a bit of broccoli or I cook some pasta and have half cauliflower cheese and half pasta and cheese Earlier this week I made my first ever Battenburg cake! It looked and tasted really nice and the kids loved having it in their lunch boxes. Got the recipe from the great British beak off book which was £5 in WHSmiths a week ago. Going to try the coffee and walnut cake next, but will use pecans instead as that's what I have and they are a similar texture
chickencam
I made a carrot and cumin soup yesterday, we have loads of carrots at the allotment and I used one that was lovely and tender but weighed 750g
Saronne
That sounds amazing - and very yummy. I've never been able to grow a decent carrot on my allotment. I think the soil is far too heavy.
chickencam
We are blessed with sandy soil, great for carrots and parsnips, but not so good for brassicas.
Daphne
I also made a carrot soup yesterday - but only because I bought a kg for 35 cents - thats about 30p Today's delight is stuffed cabbage leaves (minced pork and beef and leftover cooked rice plus assorted spicy flavourings). I wanted to serve these with pickled red cabbage but OH drew the line at 2 colours of cabbage on the plate
chickencam
Lovely baked gammon followed with cauliflower cheese using up some odd bits of cheese some blue, followed by a steamed treacle sponge and custard. Have felt so bloated since though. I have eaten too much today after fasting for 16 hours a day all week. worth it though.
chickencam
A proper school dinner like, cheese and ham pie. I even made the pastry. We couldn't remember what it was served with at school, so had chips and peas. Then remembered that we had beans and mash with it at school so we are going to have the other half tomorrow with beans and mash.
Daphne
Yesterday we had leftover beef curry (delish) with bombay potatoes (too much of a curry good thing in hindsight) Tonight we are having a salmon trout (can't remember the last time I saw these for sale in the UK, but they are quite common here) with baked potato and a green veg. I wanted to have the 'spare' Xmas pud which apparently needs eating by the EO Feb for pudding as the incessant rain means we need cheering and warming up, however, I realise I am unable to eat it without cream or custard or brandy butter and as we have none in it means a trip to a shop which isn't happening today And I'll be making a veg soup in a minute to keep the gloom and cold out
chickencam
I am currently eating a French country vegetable soup, for my lunch which I made last week. I made it with a ham stock from the freezer and it is very tasty and warming.

chickencam
Nice smoked haddock fish cakes, which I egged and bread crumbed then baked in the oven, far less greasy than fried ones, they held together much better too.

BlueSilver
Apple fritters with the last of the apples in storage. Sugar induced coma, but I'll suffer bravely
chickencam
Well done for using your apples, we are devils for storing them using a few early on then the rest end up being fed to the pigs across the road, mainly because we are not great pudding people. OH has just made a tasty seafood gumbo for our lunch

chickencam
Paprika chicken dish, bit different the sauce had grapes and apple purée in it. It was really tasty chicken in a white sauce with paprika and cayenne pepper in it with onion and the fruit. Served with green beans and rice, looked very 1970's but tasted lovely. chickencam
Lots of cooking involving peppers and tomatoes over the past couple of days, 18 peppers for 20p at Tesco and a bag of vine tomatoes for 10p and two packs of coriander 6p each. Chilli, bolognese, and a lovely gumbo type soil made by OH this evening.
Daphne
WOW Amazing bargains for delicious ingredients Last night we had chicken (I thought I'd bought 2 legs, but got it home to discover it was half a bird so out with the cleaver) simply roasted with baked potato and the first lettuce (not mine) dressed with neighbour's olive oil. Tonight I'm making a meatloaf with pork and beef, I think I'll wheel the lettuce out again and some sliced roast potatoes. Every day we get through about 4 oranges and the same number of tangerines - the latter are off our tree
