Alis girls
Bit too technical at this time in t'morning. I love butter but use olive oil spread as yrs of advising people on diet has taken its toll. However everything in moderation - but what is moderation -over to MBC who hopefully is fully clothed and not au natural for an expert opinion on moderation - alas many of my patients dont know the meaning of this. Rhapsody
I have nothing intelligent to say apart from the turn this thread is taking is causing me to laugh my tea up my nose.
docsquid
I like butter, but practicality/spreadability means I use olive oil spread most of the time, except when baking special items such as Christmas cakes and biscuits.

Fully clothed? Yes. Expert opinion? Not a chance. Given my natural love of food, I've invested a fair amount of effort learning about the health aspects, but it's a purely amateur interest so I wouldn't attach any significance to my ramblings. Me too, that's why I usee Lurpak. I love butter and buy it if we are toasting crumpets or teacakes as it's not the same without. Stork for baking here too, by far the best I have found. bluekarin
I love butter, but buy Clover for sarnies and Stork for baking. I'll get Lurpack, either spreadable or in blocks when its on special. I made my own a few months ago and it was the best I ever tasted (if I do say so myself). We used to buy Olive spread for sarnies, but I am not that keen on the taste. I wish shops still stocked Vitalite as I loved that. Can't seem to buy it anywhere. Not the best tubs for storing in the fridge though, being round
chickencam
I have a Lakeland insulated butter dish and apart from the hottest summer days it keeps the butter in good condition. I use Lurpak because it seems to keep better and I don't like my butter too salty. We get through quite a lot of butter so it never has time to go off. I use Flora in baking unless I need a buttery flavour, less saturated fat and easy to mix up.
Geoid
I get Asda, Tesco or Morrisons value butter. Butter is butter.
majorbloodnock
I get Asda, Tesco or Morrisons value butter. Butter is butter. Only in so far as eggs are eggs, hamburgers are hamburgers or fish is fish IMHO, of course..... And don't get me started on the recent fall in Avatar quality
..lay a little egg for me
I am a butter fan too. It tastes miles better than spread and as long as you don't pile it onto food, the amount of fat you are actually consuming really isn't that much. I also refuse to buy spread because I haven't yet found one that doesn't contain palm oil, which I try to avoid wherever I can. Hear hear! Avoiding palm oil gets harder and harder. I always assume that if the ingredients state "vegetable oil" then it is palm oil.

Yes, anything that just states 'vegetable oil' could be a mix of any oils including palm, soya, rapeseed, olive etc. The manufacturers don't have to be any more specific than that, which makes for tricky shopping. Valkyrie
I only use butter (slightly salted for normal and unsalted for cooking). I won't touch anything with hydrogenated fat.
miffy
wow interesting thread...have refused to use anything except butter for years (rather expensive!!) after the concerns about transfatty acids. currently use butter for most things and stork for cakes and pastry. Having a vegetarian living with us and a son with a vegan girlfriend staying for christmas and a niece with a severe nut allergy staying for new year and me having just rejoined slimming world (again ) I feel more tham a little confused
