So... How many bone breakages???

Recommended Posts

Just got back from fracture clinic, with my brave son, who slipped up while pulling his sister along on her sledge, and thought he'd hurt himself.........

The nurses asked about pain relief... what pain relief????

And when had this happened?.............. yesterday :oops:

He's buckled his left arm a bit, proper cast due on next Monday/Tuesday...

he's most annoyed at..... not being able to cut up his food!!!!!

The staff offered to call family services for him.... BAD Parent!!

I've just (ahem) 'borrowed' a humungus roll of bubble wrap from work to lag 3 sides of my hen house, but am now reconsidering wrapping myself head to toe in it after reading about everyone's mishaps on here. :anxious:

Get well wishes to all. :)

Fred - if your son asks they will do him a cast in his football team colours. 8)

I am mostly house- bound at the moment due to the weather.

Ten years ago I fractuured my spine following a fairly minor fall on a wet floor. It took me nearly 2 years to recover and I retired from work (nursing) earlier than planned.

The thought of falling on the ice fills me with dread. Fortunately I have family to help with the chickens and shopping etc.

All I can say is take care out there, but enjoy it if you can :)

Sorry to hear about your son's broken arm Freddie, I hope he feels better soon.

My DD broke her arm at lunch on her last day of primary school, then went on to play her flute in the leavers assembly and shake hands a number of times when she received various certificates from the chair of governors. Later that day at A&E we found out that she had broken it at lunchtime play when another child had jumped on top of her .... BAD PARENT here too :?

To make things worse I worked at the school and she was brought to me as they were worried about her, I said she was fine :oops:

She spent all her summer holiday in plaster she was not happy :D

That reminds me of when my sister broke her wrist. Mum didn't think it was broken and we were waiting for my brother to come back from France, so we picked him up and then they went to A&E the next day, once Sarah's wrist had swollen up.

At one stage my Mum was known by name by the A & E staff!!!

My Dad is currently in hospital as he's fractured his pelvis and hip and chipped the ball joint. He's now been in hospital for nearly 2 weeks and hopefully going to Frenchay hospital to have a 'Young persons' hip replacement. Originally they wanted to use metal plate to realign it and secure it. Although with a hip replacement he will recover quicker.

Although Mum is slightly worried that we might need to buy an automatic car as it will be easier for him to drive.

That sounds nasty Liz  - I hope he's soon on the mend.

He's ok, he's not in that much pain now, just taking a couple of paracetamol everyday, the bruising has gone down nicely too! He was more annoyed that he wasted 5 days paid leave...

He's currently confined to his bed, with a nice view of the snow from the eighth floor in traction.

Dear son is fine, a bit fed up, but hasn't been in much pain all through, so he tells me!

my lot are trained not to winge tho'....... unless there's blood in quantity, or something sticking out that shouldn't be visible, there's not much tea and sympathy!!

He's not going to be able to go windsurfing for a month, which is really his biggest problem, as he needs to stay fit for the Squad.... Swiss ball then!

I've lost my log carrier, my snow clearer, my car s"Ooops, word censored!"er offer....... hell!! So here's to a speedy fix!!

Oh my goodness! What a bunch! Liz, your poor dad!, Freddie, hope your son gets his funky plaster soon and isn't too grumpy about missing out on surfing.

I twisted my knee skiing over the Christmas holiday: I heard it "pop" when I fell, and thought, "yuk, that didn't feel very nice". It hurt like mad, but I put a brave face on it, (mainly because I didn't fancy the prospect of Christmas day in a Bulgarian hospital  ), so put up with it, and lounged by the pool for the rest of the holiday instead!

Its still not right, so reluctantly, nagged by my lovely new fella, I made a Dr's appointment for last Wednesday, only to have to cancel due to being snowed in.

I WILL have to re-make the appointment, as it still is painful and slightly swollen, but am going to be surrounded no doubt, by other people who at least had the good fortune to NOT spend an awful lot of money to damage themselves in the snow.... I could have done it so much more cheaply here!
