Ok hands up who's interested in Valentines day?

Recommended Posts

OH isn't and never has been a romantic and I don't think that this is about to change!

When we first got together our "anniversary" was Feb 6th and then it was his birthday on 19th Feb. As we were students at the time, something had to give and we never really got into Valentine's Day.

I remember one memorable year early on when I suggested going out and booking a restaurant. "Oh, we'll get into a curry house," he said....We spent our Valentine's Meal at the Wimpy Bar in Guildford. Now it don't get more romantic than that!!

We always do cards on Valentine Day but don't usually bother doing anything special.

OH's birthday is on the 16th and when he was 40 we went to Paris for 4 days, on Valentines Day we took a dinner cruise down the Seine and that was very romantic. The chap at the table in front of us looked very nervous throughout the meal and then nearing the end of the cruise he went down on one knee and proposed. She said yes and the whole boat cheered and clapped. So sweet. :D

Valentine's Day? I'd know summat was up if I got flowers from Him Indoors.

Last time he gave me some was when I had our daughter. She's 28.....and he only bought those under duress because my sister mentioned that it was kind of the done thing.

I'd rather have another hen ....or two.

Oh I do like Valentine's Day, but DH and I don't take it very seriously. I always buy a silly card, write a naff poem in it with my left hand (to disguise my writing of course), sign it with a question mark and then shove it through the letter box on the morning. All a complete surprise!

I get bought my annual bunch of flowers :lol:

We do the card thing.

And we often will go out for a meal - but will go the weekend after or before rather than on the day itself - restaurants are a lot quieter and cheaper!

It's the first "day" after Christmas in our family where we have anything too celebrate as such - no birthdays, anniversaries etc. So I think really it is an excuse to celebrate something!

No gifts or flowers though... But last time he bought me flowers I looked at them and said "what are they for" - in front of the rest of his family! Not surprised he doesn't buy them anymore really.... Bless him. He was only trying to be nice!!

No not interested at all. I think it is lovely in the early stages of a relationship or when you want to let someone know that you are interested in them but loses its point in a permanent relationship.

I appreciate it much more when I get flowers from my OH if I am a bit poorly or feeling a bit down. In fact I would be a bit miffed if he got me overpriced flowers for Valentines day!!!

Oh yeah - too right - only time I dont have to buy my own flowers. Unfortunatley my birthday is early Feb so get 2 lots in 1 month. Usually ask for spring flowers grown here rather than roses which i am the kiss of death too. Mums need pampering - really we do. We give each other a card and choccies.

Same here!

I hate the commercialism of it, we usually exchange cards though or have a nice dinner in (I refuse to pay the hiked up prices to eat out on that date  ). Phil is staying for a couple of days and has just announced that he won't be around fro that weekend as he's going to a friend's 50th... did I mind? Not really, but it'd have been nice if he'd checked first as I'd turned down an offer to go out with a girlfriend in case we stayed in with a meal.

It's my OH's birthday so we do birthday stuff, it does mean that we struggle to get a meal out and we refuse to buy really expensive flowers. We feel that Valentine's day should be for newly together people and that married people have wedding anniversaries for that kind of thing.

We have been out at lunchtime the last couple of years which has been nice. This year we will probably go out for Sunday lunch somewhere as a family.

I tend to make a nice card for DH. He forgets it, but remembers our anniversary every year and that is what matters the most. He also does romantic and nice things all year round, although this is mixed in with taking me to farm auctions and tool fairs!

TBH I think it is a nice thing to have a day when you remember those people you love, but I don't think it is nice to have it so commercialised.

I am not going to pay extra prices to eat out on a particular day either!

We don't really bother. I've told hubby not to bother with a card, but he still does, then makes me feel guilty because I haven't got him one. When we were first married, or possibly the year before, he sent flowers to my work and I had to go down to reception to get them. My face was extremely red with embarrassment when I returned to the office  It was a nice surprise though.

We're on holidays in Latvia for Valentine's this year, so it should be different anyway :D

Years ago I hadn't seen my friend for quite a while so we agreed to meet up and have a meal in the local Italian restaurant. When the waiter came round and gave us both a rose we thought that was very nice - and then we discovered we were the only girls among a restaurant full of couples. What day is it? Oh my giddy aunt - we paid the bill, ran outside and howled with laughter (or hysterical laughter more like). The other couples were quite amused at our discovery!:oops::oops:

I just made my hubby a card on Moonpig... it was fun... and as I cant delve through the shelves in the shops at the mo it was necessary...

I Moonpig all the cards i need to send out in January so i don't forget a single birthday/anniversary and don't worry about it for the rest of the year.

Now that is genius!

The number of birthdays etc I have forgotten is rediculous.
