Space Chick
When I was growing up we had fish EVERY Friday. Whilst I have fish every week now, I have it on whatever day I fancy. However, I ALWAYS have Fish on Good Friday Today, it will be brunch, which I am going to be making soon, Smoked Haddock served with a soft poached egg and some homemade Granary Bread So, anyone else having Fish today, and if so what are you having? Egluntyne
Him Indoors always does a humungous Fish Pie on Good Friday. Delish. He is peeling the spuds as I type. It has everything but the kitchen sink in it. Hardly counts as fasting and abstaining.

Alis girls
We were discussing this - what is the reason behind it? Is it religious. I was bought up C/E and we always had fish on Fridays
BarbaraJ
yes it is Catholic, can't remember why though lol We always had fish on Friday at home and at school. I don't follow the faith now so fish is any day now!
Space Chick
Its not only Catholic, as I was brought up as a Baptist
Olly
Fridays - and Lent - were supposed to be 'meat free' days, but fish didn't count as meat! Even for non-Catholics though, it seems to be a tradition to have fish pie on Good Friday, at least my mum always did and I do too. I just did a home-made one with cod, prawns and spinach today. Not as good as my mum used to make, though.

kinsk
It was fish pie on Friday for us too. I made one for the freezer aswell. I was brought up C of E we've always had fish on Good Friday and were told that really you 'should' have it every Friday.
bluekarin
we do! We had tuna pasta bake Friday. And it was a good 'un - sometimes I do too little sauce and it goes a bit dry and claggy
Looney
We didn't have fish on Good Friday but we used to have a Fish and Chip Friday tradition where I used to work I just bought a reduced price whole salmon (2.8 kg) from Asda for £6.70 so have been busy cutting it into steaks to put in the freezer. That should feed us for a fair few meals!
craftyhunnypie
I'm in no way rligous, but isn't it all to do with the last supper? Bread & fishes? He was then crucified & rose from the dead didn't he? We didn't have fish - I had cottage pie at the pub instead washed down with Tia Maria & coke. If it had to be fish then chippy or fish fingers it would have been here too! Emma.x
