Snow

Recommended Posts

Well I finally have snow! Had a tiny fluttering the other day but nothing much. This morning I've woken to lots more snow, so have been out clearing the paths and steps down to the girlies who are none too impressed. So glad I got the tarpaulin up last week before it arrived so at least they are dry and relatively draught free!!

This is the view from my bedroom this morning

Don't think I'll attempt the hill today.....need to get set of new tyres for my Landy.....but they are £600+ yikes. The old set have done 80k miles though so can't complain too much.

OOoh by the way, my builders have finished my off road parking space which makes getting in and out much easier and means I don't have to park my Landy up the steep hill....here he is all tucked up (pre snow!)

Nah, turned out to be one of the secretaries who didn't understand how the heating controls worked  says she 'usually leaves that sort of thing to a man' *tuts* beats me how on earth she thought that 'off' would mean warmer *shakes head in disbelief*

Maybe she thought by turning it off, she'd turn the cold off

Well, we had some lovely big flakes of snow till about an hour ago, which settled for a bit, but now its stopped :(

I wish I'd been driving something a bit more 4 wheely. Do be careful everybody. Despite posting we have had virtually no snow it has been grey and snowing all day today. By the time I had to go out there was just a couple of inches on the car and our road had a covering. Even tho it wasn't frozen I still managed to skid at the top of the hill, coming down off a high ridge. I was braking as someone was coming the other way. With the churchyard wall coming towards me I remembered something from my driving lessons 100 years ago and took my foot off the brake in time to avoid hitting it and ended up squarely in the middle of an country lane intersection. Fortunately "Ooops, word censored!"ody else was about and no injuries to me or car. I was shaken tho, and came home to a medicinal brandy. The other person didn't stop which rather surprised me, we are quite rural.

Today I can finally partake in the Snow thread as we have had snow overnight and for most of the day. Not much has settled though, only a few inches, but stupidly it is enough to bring virtually the whole of Essex to a standstill  No idea what was going on but all the major roads round about here were gridlocked. So a snow day off work for me  - but was able to have work e-mailed to me so still had to show willing and do as much as poss :( At least the girls benefited, as was able to keep popping out to them to give them extra treats, corn for lunch and warm pasta and tuna for tea

Am loving all the beautiful snowy scenes everyone has been posting :)

OH says it's about an inch outside. It's been on and off Macflurrying all day but seems to have stopped now. Tell a lie - it's doing it again. At least it isn't as bad as last time (so far). We were supposed to get 4cm's today, but doesn't look like that will happen. Also 4 predicted for Thursday. Supposed to be really warm 2degrees on Friday with rain and snow on Saturday - and rain for the rest of the week. I suppose it will be warmer though.

I'm feeling very naughty as I've just been sniggering at somebody else's expense. Was sat in my cottage and heard much revving of engines, looked out to see a little BMW fly along the lane and attempt to get up the hill, it then started sliding and swerving all over the place.....some local kids were trying to push it but the driver seemed pretty clueless, he then started slewing all over the track in a backward direction....next thing I hear is one of the kids saying "we'd better get down the hill he's over the edge"......a few of us came outdoors but couldn't see anything....but there were tracks going all over the place all the way down the cobbled track down the side of my cottage (the track in the photo showing the view from my window)......a little while later a man appeared, towing a suitcase behind him.....we asked if we could help and he came over and was rather arrogant, saying he'd been looking for the Pennine Manor hotel but had come down here. The hotel is a BIG place about half a mile up from here and he'd driven past it, ignored all the dead end signs and come down the hill.....anyway, he asked if any of us had a tractor to pull him out as his car was over the edge lower down.....he was really rather stroppy about it, we said we didn't but would try to find somebody who could, and I took his mobile number....he said he needed his car tomorrow as he had meetings. I said I didn't think he'd get it out that quickly and he didn't seem best pleased....he told us he was Henry from London, 'nuff said (sorry no offence meant to London Omleteers!)

We have found a local farmer who is going to take a look tomorrow and see what he can do, and one of my neighbours has been down the hill and taken photos of his car, which has its back wheels over the grass bank.

We shouldn't laugh, but he was so pompous and we were all trying to help, and he did look rather funny walking back up the hill in his suit, trying to drag his suitcase on wheels through the drifts!! :silenced::wink:

Lovely photos Omletina! 8) - OH is certainly missing his Landy now :( Watch him next time we meet up....he'll be running off with yours

No!!! He hasn't got rid of his Landy!! I can't believe it!

Not by choice - we had to choose whether to live in the house or the Defender.......the house won :) We could really do with it at the moment just to get out of the drive and onto the main road.
